Default Help! laptop problems with Medieval

Hi, I'm trying to run Medieval Total War on a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop (main specs: Windows XP operating system, M750 1.86 Ghz, ATI Radeon X300 64MB HyperMemory graphics card, 1GB RAM) but have hit the following problem:
The game starts okay, strategic map graphics, opening intro, sound etc is fine and, bizarrely, the first tutorial (Sicily) battle screen works okay too.
But when I try to go into any other Battle screen, be it the next tutorial or a full game, the graphics go crazy - black screen with strange patterns and mouse trail.
My laptop's brand new and Direct X 9 compatible, I've updated the drivers from Dell just in case and fiddled with colours / screen resolution etc to try and fix it, but to no avail.
    Any help really gratefully welcomed!
    Thanks, Jim

Assuming it's a graphics card problem, you could:
    a. Try another MTW patch
    b. download the latest drivers from ati here
    c. try the omega drivers from here

Try to keep in mind that sometimes the latest driver cause problems. So if things still don't work ou could always try older drivers.
