Men from all corners of the world have gathered under the banner of Gondor to assault the lands of Mordor. The One Ring has disappeared, none knowing who possesses it, but it is suspected that Sauron may, leading to Denethor, growing in despair, to send out calls to all leaders to encourage them to send all they can spare from their own lands to aid in this mission. Within a year, tens of thousands of men from all corners had gathered outside of Minas Tirith.
The main force of men of Gondor was led by Boromir. The professional soldiers (grey) were led directly by Boromir, with a smaller force from Ithilien, led by Faramir, and numbered 11,093 men. Among these men are 204 men of the Tower Guard, rarely called to battle yet now asked to invade Mordor. The militia forces (brown), led by Captain of the Tower Araphant, who commanded 7,750 guardsmen, yeomen, and scouts as well as a small contingent of Citadel Guards. This force would be the main thrust that would steamroll across Ithilien and the Morgul Vale, towards its first target of Minas Ithil. Once that was captured, Boromir would lead his army deep into Mordor, and eventually assault Barad-dûr itself.
Denethor sent the men of Dale, Rohan, Bree, and the men of the fiefdoms north, towards the Dagorlad, under the command of Imrahil, his brother-in-law. The Army of Dol Amroth (blue), led by Imrahil himself, consisted of 4,410 men, with Imrahil's son Elphir leading as well. The small Army of Anfalas(cyan) was under the command of Hirluin, and he led 2,366 men from the region. The Army of Lossarnach (white) was under the command of a Captain of the Tower, Handir, who commanded 4,795 men of that fief in the absence of their lord Forlong. An army of men from Rohan (red), led by another Captain of the Tower, Bregolas, included 4,028 men. Another army, from Dale (purple), was led by another Captain, Hallas, who led 6,830 men of Dale. Finally, a small army from Bree (yellow), led by Captain Orodreth, included 3,780 men. Each Captain's force included a contingent of Citadel Guards to protect them. These armies would be used to assault the Black Gate and beyond, and provide a second front for the the armies of Mordor to have to fight.
The hearts of the men grow dim, and Denethor takes solace in his palantir. He views the enemy, sees the forces that Sauron possesses. He does not know if Sauron possesses the ring, but knows that if he does or if he doesn't, the world of Men must go on the offensive. They have neither the strength nor the willpower to endure years of siege. Whether or not Sauron possesses the Ring, the fate of the world would be decided on Denethor's terms...
