    Default Unit Questions

    Hello Everyone,

Just a few questions on how certain abilities affect units.

    1. In Ashigaru spear wall formation they are more effective in fighting against cavalry, I am curious if this is more effective against any infantry troops as well. I would imagine it may put them at a disadvantage against say Katana Samurai...but what about against other Ashigaru for example?

    2. I like to use my archers in loose formation when firing against forts, castles etc or when outnumbered to lower the casualty ratio from enemy archer units. I am curious though as to whether loose formation has any penalties to ranged attack? Are they less accurate...I would imagine the spread of arrows would be greater and that may be the drawback, but I am not sure this is the case. (It's kind of funny to see arrows seem to hone in on units when they are small and move a bit).

    Thanks.

spear wall is very effective in shogun against all frontal attacks especially cavalry charges.

The only side affect of loose formation is less defense against charges and perhaps some units not firing due to some of the men not being in range in the back.

    1. The tooltip mentions effectiveness vs cav with increased vulnerability to flanking maneuvers explicitly, but it seems like yari ash really are more effective holding up infantry in spear wall. Not sure about it, but I'd say probably more effective.

    2. I believe that loose formation reduces the accuracy of missile units.

why would loose formation reduce accuracy? the disadvantege of loose formation is that they are spread out, which means in case of a cavalry charge, the charge will be able to penetrate further then when they are packed together. also it makes them a bit trickier to move in my opinion

There is no value in any of the readable or poignant DB tables that reduce accuracy of units in loose formation. The statement in the above post is true, basically because the cavalry has less people to run over so they can wipe them up easily.

Yeah, I'm aware that charge ruins loose formation units, but I've heard people say accuracy is reduced in loose formation. It seems to be that way when you play (e.g. I get more kills with bow cav if I keep them in tight formation), but I have no concrete evidence of it I guess. Who knows, maybe there's less coordination among the troops? Dunno lol.

    1) frontal attacks are much less effective against spearwall for all units, although it stops cav knocking everyone over during the charge.

    2) the only reason you would get less kills is that less of your units are firing, or are further away from the units they are firing at.
