Some guy is running around the map until I quit?

Can't believe CA didn't think of this one. They should add a timer, so that at the end of 30 minutes or so, the person with the most units remaining wins. As of now, while typing this, I'm in a game where I killed off all the guy's units except his general. Upset about his loss, he is now running around the map with his general. I no longer have any mounted units so I can't catch up to him.

This game is so broken makes me wanna quit. But now that I came across this forum and see a "Sengoku Jidai League", I might do that instead. I've been a big fan of Total War since Medieval and Rome, Shogun 2 is the first total war game I tried mutliplayer with. It's fun but too many flaws. Nevertheless, the Total War series are great time killers.

Most opponents are fine, some are arses, and the rare few graduate to something unmentionable.

If it's any consolation, I've never encountered someone who's done that in all my battles online (thousands). Bad luck.

So while I can recognize that's annoying, I don't feel a timer is necessary except in sieges and perhaps all key captures.

I think a timer for 1 hour is pretty reasonable, don't think any mutliplayer battles last that long?

So yep the game has been here for 2 hours and he still hasn't left.


I alt tabbed, watching TV, going to sleep soon. Eventually I'll wake up to a win once my units catch up to his general who will stop running since he does have to sleep. Luckily CA didn't add a patrol option, then he'd run back and forth without needing to be there.

the same thing happend to me yesterday... such a pain.
The worst thing was that he begun insulting me? saying that the game was my life and alot more... that caused me to do the same thing like you did (normally i don't care about my score), but damn it took from 15:06 to 18:40 before he quit-.-

Had the same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago. Luckily, I manage to corner him and and his general routed immediately. It is very annoying. When this happens to me, I just suicide charge my general and gg my opponent. At least he goes down with honour.

Determining the winner if there were a timer would be difficult to implement.

Anyways, yeah, thankfully there aren't that many people who run away when they have no chance of winning at the end.

Sometimes, bow generals can pull off wins in the end if they run around a bit and skirmish, I think that's pretty legit. But otherwise yeah if your remaining general has no chance of winning, don't be a dick, just go down in a blaze of glory at least.

This would require more than just a time limit to beat, because let's say you implement a one hour time limit then both parties get a draw, this would make it even more advantageous to run your cavalry around to stall at the end of the game.

I guess you would have to give the win to whoever had the most units left?

Just concede defeat if you don`t wanna waste your time, get over it and go on to the next match. Most opponents i come across play in a linear, well-blanced style so don`t care too much about those idiots...just go on to the next match and have some fun.

Yeah I'll just move on and have fun next time. I mean if you think about it, one would only lose a few hundred or thousand points when you have a rank 50,000 doing this to someone in the top 100.

Yeah but what happens if one guy has 2 heavily vetted katana sam and a katana hero and the other has 5 bow ashigaru without ammo left. How is that fair if the guy who has the better troops and better chance of winning loses because the other has more numbers?

I encountered this the other day. I had a unit of yari samurai left. He had 2 units of half dead great guard. As soon as I tried to engage him he'd just run off. I just left my samurai on a morale point and went afk to eat dinner. Came back to find he had got bored and decided to attack me, landing me a nice win. I've had it happen a few other times as well often to similar effect.

i would just bunch up all your units and corner camp until he leaves, that way you will win no matter what and your units wont get tired.

In Shogun, the map where the river runs east-west, and the two big hills in the middle - don't know what it's called.

At the start of the game he keeps running around the hills and across the river like two people circling each other around a table or something. No combat yet - still has his full army. After about 15 minutes of this i ask him if he plans to actually fight at all (this being the point of the game). He tells me to go do something unpleasant with my genitals to myself.

I leave the house and run some errands, grocery store, etc. I come home, and nothing has changed. I've been gone over an hour. He's still hiding there. I select all my units, right click on one of his.

As my army starts to move he says (I remember this clearly): "a bit impatient aren't we?" And he typed it in so quick after my units moved I just know he was glued to the screen. This comment makes me wonder if this isn't a repetitive strategy for him. I go to the bathroom and start unpacking groceries.

I come back in 10 minutes. Turns out that the right-click attack wrecks him, I win. Game time must have been over 2 hours.
