    Default Question about editing roads

Helo, I am not new to this forum, not to RTW too, so during time I managed to edit some of best mods posted on this forum, by myself, using the perfect guides I have found here, on this forum, for almost every aspect of the game. Recently I have discovered a new passion for this game, especially for BI expansion but I am not too satisfied by the maps of the various mods. Ones are too big and the game slows a little bit down, others are not too realsitic and others are too crowded in some places, others are full of bugs. I would like to create some new provinces, especialy in nowdays Bulgaria, which were occupied by the Slavs when they arreived in this region. The problem is that it seems easy to do new provinces, even in BI, but my question is how does the game project the roads between the cities and the bridges across the rivers. Only because I write the type of roads in Descr_strat file? What tells the game to put a road in a place and not another. Do I have to design the roads by myself in a specific file, and if so, which is this file?

    PS

Maybe someone already posted something for my question, but It's been 2 days now and throughout my search on this forum I haven't found anything to help me.

The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin. When all is orderly, he does not forget that disorder may come. Thus his person is not endangered, and his States and all their clans are preserved.

Hi there. The game uses some sort of path finding or cost calculation to plot roads. The one thing that is fixes is that the game will try to connect capitals of adiacent provinces. Each route gets its own road, though it is possible two roads overlap, in which case they may appear to "split" at some point.

What can you do to manipulate the position of roads? Well firstly there are some terrain types (map_ground_types.tga) that are impassable (mountains and dense forests). Secondly, rivers can only be crossed at certain points marked on map_features.tga with Cyan. Whether it is a ford or bridge depends on the road type.

So you can manipulate the position of roads by altering the terrain. There are limits to this and it is possible that no road is generated between two cities even if a clear path exists. My rule of thumb is to not expect roads to curve back towards their origin (>180degree curves around obstacles).
