    Default Spain attacking Valencia

Am I the only one who's having significant trouble with this?

In the Spain campaign, I want to take over Valencia. I have 4 jinites, 1 heavy cavalry, 4 militia archers, and 4 militia spearmen. The rebels always seem to own my ass. First, the walls are guarded with archers and militia, and there's no way I could kill them with archers. Not even by using archers and jinites together. By the time they slaughtered all my jinites and archers, I only killed 20 enemy units in total. I even tried attacking the enemy from the back using jinites after breaking the door and I still wasn't able to kill most of the men. And the enemy centre is heavily guarded with heavy cavalry, spearmen, and missile units. Help please?

    Thanks.

    Try starving them out.
Donīt attack, just sit back and wait for starvation to kill them off.
Or prepare an army that is better suited for siege assaults - Heavy infantry primarily, and artillery for knocking down towers and walls.
Cavalry and archers are not very useful when assaulting settlements, since those situations call for storm troops, not lightly armored soldiers who canīt navigate the streets effectively.

As Spain, your starting troops should be sufficient to take Valencia, but that settlement also has a strong garrison, so you donīt have to worry about other factions claiming it very early. You can take the time to prepare some Dismounted Feudal Knights with your army.

Velencia is difficult to take because in real life there was a crocial battle there that decided the tide of the reconqistas.
Try starve them out, is best option, make them fight on ur terms.
Otherwise u will have to take more men, and build more than 1 seige engine.

You can get them killed, then they wil fall off their horses. Or you can train the unit you can get them from castle with a barracks, assuming you are using vanilla. You cant dismount in battle though. Itll be great in M3TW though.

I can't seem to find the option of Dismounted Feudal Knights for the barracks. It's either peasant javelin, javalinmen, or almaghavers. And feudal knights are available at the beginning of the game.

EDIT: NVM I got mailed knights and feudal knights mixed up.

Right, the Dismounted knights come automatically along with an upgraded castle, not the barracks.
I think you should be able to recruit them from Toledo pretty early.

Yeah, you have quite a mobile army. Its better to starve them and fight them in the open field

I completely agree with starving them out. In my first Medieval II campaign, as Spain, I decided to attack Valencia directly. Despite playing all of the tutorial, I hadn't realised towers behaved differently. The battle didn't go well.

I restarted that campaign due to a few reasons, and I've left Valencia until it was all that was left in Iberia. I'm starving them out with an army that should do fine in a Sally battle.

I thought it's impossible to bribe him?
I've used an experienced diplomat once, and even though I had plenty of cash to offer him (some 60000 florins), he wouldn't listen to the offer.

But towards the end of his career, the spanish king banished him, fearing the influence the Cidsī victories had given him.
And el Cid went on to claim Valencia as his own little kingdom. Eventually, he died in a battle there.

So, yeah, he IS technically fighting for the Reconquista (having claimed Valencia for a christian nobleman - himself) but Valencia is not a recognized faction in the game (also, he WAS a banished outlaw...)
