The US-Mexican Border

This porous, pathetic excuse for a border needs to be clamped down upon. This can be done by either opening it (which has its pro's and con's) or closing it (pro's and con's again).

There is no middle ground when it comes to being open or closed. The current situation proves that. Our current border policies don't work, even a liberal can see that.

What do you think we should do?

problem : too many illegal aliens, bringing the wages down , "dey took er jobs!"
solution : dissolve the border and make 'em all legal.

Opened completely, but with stations giving work visas to everyone who crosses.

That way the immigrants will be registered, tax-paying, minimum-wage-earning workers.

I agree with you Mudd, We need to secure the border. I remember a conversation I had with my father once about the border and terrorism. Think about this. Any terrorists, doesn't matter what ethnicity/religion could feasibly smuggle a nuclear weapon into our country via the US-Mexico border. They could even pay the Mexicans crossing the border to carry it over in pieces. IF those mexicans got caught, the meixcan people would get blamed and the terrorists would still have enough of the bomb to cause serious damage on orur homeland. Think about that, a terrorist could bring a weapon of mass destruction(providing they have one that is) across the border and put it in the back of a van and drive it into the middle of DC or some other major city and detnonate it. Thats it folks, the end of that city. Scares the hell out of me knowing our country is so open to attack. And don't talk to me about the likelyhood of that particular scenario happening, we never thought 9/11 could happen either.

I'm all for security, be it by the government or even a regulated militia. The fact that Al qaeda has not yet smuggled in chemical or biological weapons is truly suprising. Considering they unearthed a massive tunnel beneath the border, I bet if I was a part of Al Qaeda, I could easily smuggle it through the border without any experience.

Put the national guard on the border. Prevent illegals from getting in. If they want to come here they should do it legally. Plus the national guard could help stop the flow of illegal drugs. All of our families came here at one point but they did it legally.

Close the border completely. Put the National Guard on the border. But with the latest and best equipment. And show the world that the United States puts her sons and daughters first and not last.

Here are some interesting facts:
1 out of 20 workers in the US are illegal
40% of mexicans said that they would like to move to america (42 million people, how many of those are terrorists?)
1 in 10 Mexicans live in the United States.

Forget the U.S.-Mexican border....all the 9/11 hijackers who trained to fly planes in the U.S. came in through the Canadian-U.S. border. So if anything, we need to be concetrating on that...

Its just that, mexicans are easy to pick on...so we do. All those "minutemen"...theyre just misguided A-holes, really.

Ok as a person who works in a trade that is house building. Right were I live there are tons or illegals working on an construction site and this is taking the jobs away from the American workers. Many of whom are now in trouble since they no longer have a job to pull money in and our taxes keep getting higher and higher. The bills don’t stop coming either. Down in Texas there was a case of were a family of illegals came to the United States. There son needed a skull operation and since they couldn’t pay for it the United States did. And at the same time in the same county were the illegal family was living an American family had the same problem. They had to pay for the hole thing. And because of it the father who had to pay for the bill so his son could get the operation will be paying that bill of to the day he dies and even then I doubt that it will be fully paid off.

Why dont people bring up these issues with the president, or with their congressmen or something? There has to be a rational solution that will more or less please everyone...there has to be something that can be done. (short of kicking all the illegals out of America) This is a rich country, there is enough money to go around if only people took the time to plan and brainstorm....and the healthcare system is in need of a overhaul already too.

See, this is the kind of thing I wish presidents would focus on. But no, blowing isht up is more exciting.

American policy in many areas needs tweakage, how about infrastructure projects on a huge scale? If only the priorities were there, we could solve these problems...but nooo...we have to go and try solving other countries problems. Isolationism, rah rah rah!

American bosses have the choice to hire those mexican workers. As was previously mentioned, the Mexicans are not "taking jobs" they are hired, paid a pittance, and spat back onto the streets. If it was easier for immigrants to become legal, they could pay taxes which would assuage any doubts about "freeloading" immigrants. And doctors have the choice to treat illegals. If it is lifethreatening, they will treat them. If not...its their choice.
And oh yeah, that whole free-market economy sort of thing? and that whole competition idea of capitalism? Thats whats "taking jobs from americans" not the mexicans

I know me too, but it is a possiblilty and thats my arguement for stricter border control. You guys seen the stories about the tunnels systems peole have found underneath the border?? I remember hearing a story where illegals had built miles of tunnels under the border and had smuggled both drugs and people across the border. oh, Ahiga mentioned it too.
