    Default An interesting opportunity.

this is turn 11 or so
i have yet to win with gondor EVER
the two armies near e osgiliath contain both faction leader and faction heir for mordor
the battle would be very much in their favor
but i believe i could manage to take both of the generals out
    what would you do?

the witch king army contains 4 more general units
so if they lay siege ill face some tough units anyway

Hmm that fight could go both ways, as you don't really have that many archers (I tend to rely on a lot of archers, nomather what faction i play). If the Witch-King joins too, I'm certain you'll lose. That morale cry he does is very nasty and could send your whole army running before the fight has even started.

I would have pulled Denethor out of E. Osgiliath and focused on training a new army while Mordor lay siege to your city. With that army (already stationed in E.O you should be able to hold out a siege from at least Jî's army. And with the time your buying, you could get another army with more archers to attack either the Witch-King or reinforce E. Osgiliath.

As I do not know how the rest of your map looks (allies, armys, owned settlements etc), this is the best advice I can give you
I'm sure other players on this forums have other/better ideas though.

i dont even dream of defeating both armies
i toy with the idea of killing the leader and the heir only and causing mordor to lose
i dont use archers at all if not elven
its vh battle difficulty and the dmg they do is not worth it
the picture is everything there is to see
i dont have any other armies
i dont know what goes on in the map too

anyway im not sure this is a the way i want to win
and i tend to shun such difficult battles

Put your stack on the bridge and give East Osgiliath up.

says the furher, they probably won't attack E. O. and just stand there for a while and walk away( retarded AI) or go for Cair Andros. You should make archers and cavalry in Minas Tirith and just roll over them

^They don't seem to understand you . I would go for it. But the black númenórean bodygard is damn hard to kill and your army doesn't have much or any missile or cavalery or spear units. Your continued campaign will get very interesting if you succeed with Mordor out after 13 turns and alot of rebel citys to take over.

It's a fun idea but looking at the troops you have I really doubt you will manage it unless the AI does something even more suicidal than usual. I would save first and then try it for a laugh.

I do understand, but he won't succeed in what he wants so I just say what he has to do.

he won't succeed, he has no spearmen, archers or cav(I wouldn't sacrifice Denethor for it, well actually I would if I'm sure I would kill the witch King with it)

If they attack osgiliath you will probably defeat one stack with not too many loses, because the AI will always come to you if they attack. You can just hold the choke point with fountain guards and other melee.

But they probably go for cair andros first.

the half stack will probably go out of line of sight in the forest or something and comes out as a full stack the next turn (atleast OOTM always does this).

well i didnt go for it and got defeated about 30 turns later
    but i have a question
i always hear about how good archers are
im playing on vh battle difficulty and archers are not doing any real damage especially i dont know how to use them in defensive sieges since they really stink at shooting from walls

how do you make them work for you?

funnel them to the gate creating a choke point..hold the gate with fountain guards on spearwall formation and other supporting cast, pepper spray 'em with archers from wall and oil at the gate = delicious tenderized steak
Legolas : How do you kill 2 mumakil with 1 javelin?
Gimli : I don't know, ask Mr. aimbot there, WTF HAX!

yea, they're not very effective when shooting from walls (a bit strange and unrealistic) but in a normal battle they are great at weakening the enemy before they engage in melee. With just a few units of archers you can kill over 200 men before the melee phase. If you're playing Elves then you should just have full archer stack and you have a heroic victory without any deaths and 4000 death enemies
