    Icon9 My speakers finally died

I was playing MTA (Multi Theft Auto) for San Andreas, when my speakers emitted a loud shrieking noise, and then they turned off. I checked every plug, every jack too make sure that something didn't disconnect. Everything was set up fine, so I decided to disconnect then reconnect them to my computer and power strip. Still, no life left in my once high end sound system.

So my question is, what sound system would be recommended for my computer? I play a lot of games, and watch a lot of movies. For my sound systems, I like ones with a booming sound coming from the Subwoofer.

I hate to break it to you but logitech speaker box kits are not even mid-range

Just to give me an idea what your expectations are what logitech kit did you have? The Z-5500's or another model? Also, most importantly in fact, what is the maximum you are willing to spend? If your budget is higher I can recommend to you a good component audio setup otherwise I can recommend to you the best kit your budget will allow for, I have lots of first hand experience with speaker setups Do you listen to very much music in addition to games and movies?

I started my own audio journey with the Logitech X-540 kit, then moved to the Logitech Z-5500 kit, from there I built my first component audio setup (receiver/decoder and separate speakers/sub) and have since built a couple more systems, my main 7.1 setup uses mid-high end Klipsch speakers and a near top of the line Yamaha receiver with 130watt RMS output per channel. I also built a cheaper stereo audio setup ($600) with Polk speakers and a Sony receiver for my business computer.

One fact that audio noobs tend to overlook is the value of having a solid stereo setup over a low-end surround kit, yes you have fewer speaker but the quality of your audio experience is still far, far superior, this I can guarantee as I've used and owned both. If your budget is high enough to allow for a component build then I'll be sure and give you some tips on calibration as doing so greatly enhances the clarity of your audio experience, correctly setting up the subwoofer is the biggest priority, it's really not all that difficult but takes some knowledge to do right. Kits offer little to no calibration options beyond channel volumes.

Don't overlook this part if you intend to get a suggestion...

I have the X220, I know they're old. But they still had the sound quality I liked.
