Stainless Steel contains the CBUR mod for the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzzies) stock, so just by downloading the mod you get the best options around for the Romans. Newly skinned beautiful roster, new unit cards, traits and ancill's, strat models, re-worked units....

I'm not sure of any Venice specific sub-mod for SS.

The Romans get some of the best units in the early game and their roster changes very little, however if you have Real Recruitment enabled, you'll want to start the late campaign if you want to immediately use the best units that are only recruitable in Constantinople (although you'll need to recapture Constantinople first).

Not sure yet. But it changes the governments of Venice, Genoa and Novgorod to republics rather than monarchies. I've been meaning to release it for a while now but RL has been getting in the way.

    any more changes?

And this will mean using the teutonic tree if I get it right?

Byzzies are very strong in Early campaign cause they got incredible numbers of Scholarii and Firethrowers. I'm waging war on three or four fronts and each main army has a unit of siphanatores and usually one or two of Scholarii. I doubt anything could stand against them...none has yet

Byzzies in early campaign and without RR on are game-breaking because of their scholarii, spatharii tou vasileos and siphonatores spam.

Byzzies in early campaign and with RR on are one of the strongest factions but I believe they are ok balance-wise, they sometimes turn into huge empires and sometimes they don't.

Byzzies in late campaign are quite a challenge at first, not so much after you've reclaimed Greece, a difficult faction nonetheless.

Personally if you're new I'd advise you to start an early era with them (don't disable RR) so you can get acquainted with the game, then play another faction or them in late era.

Sounds awesome! I guess this is the feature from BftB 2? I suggest releasing only the most unique features from the mod (strat map models, your republic system and some models?) for 6.4 instead of delaying the updated version of BftB for SS 6.4.

No they will just not have a family tree anymore. The teutonic tree system uses command to determine next leader & heir which isn't what is needed.

Yep it's just been expanded to include Venice and Genoa too.

That's what I'm doing. It's why I said a mod for Venice will be released soon

I'm still waiting on that mod CC for my Novogorod campaign!

Praetorian, the Romans are stronger in Early era as they are a more advanced culture and fighting force at the start than pretty much anyone else. Other nations will catch up eventually, but by then you probably own half the world or more.

I prefer Late Era since they are no longer the best of the best, their Empire has been torn in half, money doesn't come by easily at the start, and I can create the Merc recruiting posts right away and start snagging (what I consider) some of the best units.

Thanks guys that was fast! How do u recruit The spatharii tou vasileos and siphonatores flame thrower.. And do u have the same access of units in the early game compared to the late campaign? in the early campaign do u just have to wait a long time to get the late soldiers?

Spatharii, flamethrower and Scholarii are recruited after the Fourth Lateran Council, in 1220ish, and only in Constantinople with the Scholae Barracks building. Check http://www.pressdat.com/mtw2 . It's a little bit outdated but it should answer your questions.
Later on you also get weaker versions of crossbowmen, pikemen, hand gunners and a pretty nice knight-like unit (pronoiarii).

It does basically what it says on the tin. Recruitment is put more in line with what you would have seen in the 'real' world. Unit's do not become available until they really were invented/trained in our history, so no rifles in the 1200s. Elite unit's are more of a rarity than vanilla games so that many armies are now comprised of the more 'stock' unit's the countries were known for, with the elite unit's being truly that. And the area of recruiting in the mod means that you won't be recruiting the full range of Highland soldiers while camped out in Baghdad, for example. It also let's you recruit non-faction troops depending on where you are, which is a fine counterbalance in my eyes.

And no worries about all the questions. Once, all of us knew nothing about this game.

Until March 2009, I didn't even know this game existed.

Also, it's not too late to have a mod change your name. I would suggest "Praetorian Guard" or Praetorian Gourd". Either would make more sense.
