Default I built my own rig today for the first time!!

I built my own rig today for the first time and the sense of achievement is amazing!! I really feel as though I am going to be an awful lot less anxious when considering upgrades in the future and it is going to save me a heap of money in the future as I'm not looking to EVER go back to extortionately priced built rigs with less power!

It took me around 3 hours from start to finish and although it was nerve shredding - especially the installation of the motherboard - I really enjoyed myself and was immersed in a rather self indulgent sense of pride for the remainder of today. I'm typing on the old bad boy as we speak now!!

The elation when I plugged my monitor in, flicked that power switch and saw a diagnostic boot up was unparalleled - aside from my wedding day and the birth of our daughter!!

    lol

Anyway, tech n00b gush over - I expect it's old hat to some folk in here now!!

    Cheers!

And now the next time you do it you will be forcing things to fit, etc. Not reckless, but you realize that these things are far less scary and delicate as they seem. I wouldn't dream of doing what I do now, back then.

Anyhow, congrats. 3 hours for a first build is pretty good. Now remember to have fun with and not constantly tweak every little thing.

i am on my second built system and i still get a bit nervous when it's time to install the CPU, paste and heatsink.

like some sort of crazy person i start whispering "don't blow up, don't blow up, don't blow up, no DOAs no DOAs no whammies!" right before i hit the power button for the first time.

I had that type of response during my first 3 builds... I've done 8-9 now and honestly I enjoy problems and DOA's that are found when the system is new, it gives me the chance to learn how to properly troubleshoot and fix different things, what really annoys me is the problems that crop up on a system that is storing a whole bunch of data and desktop customizations

My first rig I didn't know what grounding was I just stuck everything together and hoped it worked, spent 2 hours trying to work out why windows was saying I had no hard drive before realising I was using the wrong wire. I still use it now, broken front panel and the side casings are off to stop overheating, whines like a b@iatch but it still capable of playing every game out there on max/almost max.. good times.

Unless you built that within the last year then the only way it could nearly max out any game is if you play at a low resolution which just doesn't count.
