Hostages (request/query)
Ive always wondered if it would be somehow possible to create a hostage system? Something similar thats in Shogun 2. Or if you catch a general in battle, so you could keep him and then use in some bargaining?
I was messing with some of the text files, even created a new ui and window, buildings, but all I got was a crash so I decided to weigh this on someone's more experienced shoulders. Technically, I think it is possible. Lets say that instead of ransom option after a battle, you would get something like imprison/hold captive and then a script would spawn such a general to your faction, whilst deleting it from the other (not moving though, because that would make him lose loyalty, I think) but limiting his mobility; in short, you would get a general that does nothing. Now comes the tricky part, to use him in diplomacy, there must be some text editing done. But what can you get from diplomacy besides money, regions and marriages? Well
how about some sort of 'gay marriage' that would transfer that general back to its faction and you could demand money for it? Sounds like a hostage to me (in terms of speaking
, please, don't take that marriage stuff seriously)
so, anyone thinks it's possible and/or up to the task?

Re: Hostages (request/query)
The first issue I see is with the spawning of the general. How would you define the coordinates? These would have to be pre-set in the cs - it is much easier (doable...) to just work with variables and set eventcounters for every faction. But then the general would be no longer on the map like you want him to be - best what I can think of at the moment is an ancillary or trait along the lines of "captured general from xxx". I fear you may be able to script this to some extent but not for any random general.

Re: Hostages (request/query)
I really dont think that's possible within the confines of the M2TW engine.

Not like he wants it, no. But scripting a hostage taking of William Wallace might be possible - without the gay marriage

Re: Hostages (request/query)
So... you could make it work just with the preset generals? No random generals?
with the trait stuff, would it be possible to delete a general after capture, give the captor a trait and after ransom, delete trait and spawn the captured general back to his factions capital?

Re: Hostages (request/query)
You won't have a real ransom option, at best it might be yes/no campaign script message. Sorry, seeing more and more loopholes the more I think about it.
