Default Unspecified Error at start of 6.4

    Hello good people.
I have just recently gotten back into modding Medieval and have just installed SS 6.3. 6.3 works fine when I try and start it, it is when I try and play 6.4 that I recieve problems. I have to the best of my knowledge followed the install directions, run all the programs as admin and disabled the Virtual Store for good measure. However everytime I try and start 6.4, the game boots up for a breif moment, gives me a unspecified error message and then proceeds to exit to the desktop.

Quick skimming of this area of the forems hasn't turned up any help and my apologies if this question has been answered before. Would greatly appreciate any help.

    did you rerun ss_setup?

Well I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. All of these times I run the setup. It should be noted that I run into an error when attempting to select language and the campaign. I think it saves my preferences from 6.3 though.

Strange as this sounds like the typical UAC / "exe not run as administrator" problem
Have you tried switching your 6.3 + 6.4 install directory already? Install it to a folder on your desktop and then move it where you want it to be.

Not quite following you there. 6.3 plays perfectly fine and I assumed everything has been installed to the correct place as SS correctly shows up in the M2 mods folder.

If 6.3 plays perfectly fine then I see no reason why patching 6.4 into that same directory (thus updating 6.3) would be so problematic, given that you deactivated UAC.
Please doublecheck the install path of 6.4 to see if it didn't create subdirectory in your SS6.3 folder (if there is another SS6.3 folder in there then that is what went wrong).

What I meant was installing SS6.3 onto your desktop (<username>\Desktop\SS6.3) instead of \mods and patching 6.4 into that <username>\Desktop\SS6.3 directory as well.
SS will run just fine if you installed kingdoms on that same drive. Try it if the first thing I mentioned isn't the cause of this issue.

C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3 Ought to be the path right?

And yes, thats what pops up when I try to select a language/era. Problems trying to create a temporary file, operation aborted.

cool...its vista/7 issue easy enough to fix.

double check to make sure uac is all the way off (don't forget to reboot).

then when you run the ss6.3 and ss6.4 .exe files make sure you right click and select 'run as admin' manually. (this is different than being on adminstrator account and allows it to write temp files.)

then do the same (right click, 'run as admin') for ss_setup.exe and that should fix it. Thats what it needs to write the temp files.

Wait do I need to deactivate the UAC for SS as well as Medieval? Because I only deactivated it for medieval. If so thats what might be the problem. (I already run both files as admin manually)

Edit: nvm. It seems the UAC is deactivated on all fronts. Additionally I uninstalled everything and reinstalled to desktop and patched the game there. Transfered the folder and still got the same bloody results.

did you run ss_setup as admin manually as well? cause thats the only time i've continously run into the failed to create a temporary file when I didn't run that with the right click run as admin.

As for the install...don't bother transferring, just install it outside of program files somewhere on your c drive other than desktop, like a new thing like games.

so your c drive should read something like this when you open it in my computer:
    blah
    blah
    Games
    blah
    blah
    PerfLogs
    Program Files
    Program Files (x86)
    Users
    Windows
    blah

install it to the red one. But the temporary files is a ss_setup thing, so do that with the right click (it's in the ss folder). Hang in there man we know what the problem is so thats 90% of the battle we'll get up and running in no time.

    ---edit----
i just reread your last post...don't just give permissions to ss and mtw2, but completely turn UAC all the way off (never notify me when in change user account settings under security in your control panel) during the install...feel free to turn it back on afterwards tho. If that is what you have been doing and i just misread cause its 4am here...then disregard this edit lol.
