Quick question, does anyone know why all orthodox priests are being promoted to Bishops a turn or two after recruitment?
In vanilla and other mods you usually only get them when a priest is recruited in a city with a Cathedral.

Maybe they have high Piety.
Be thankful, that means your empire is very pious![]()
Ok thanksSo therefore when I start upgrading religious buildings and raising the agent limit past the number of settlements I have some should start remaining as priests? (not that I care, just curious)
At the moment I literally have no priests at all, they are all bishops but very few settlements have anything more than a small church/chapel.
If having too much bishops bothers you, you could always choke a few.
It does bother me at all, quite the opposite - it means I have more effective priests. Just curious as to how it works.
your priests gain piety if you don't click them afaik. when playing as a catholic nation just park your priest in a quiet place and before you know, you'll have a pope.![]()

Spoiler for Dangerous stuff:
From my experience the fastest way to increase the peity of your priests is to group them up into groups of 5-10 and moving them around together in regions low in your religion. When religion changes quickly towards yours it creates all kinds of positive traits.
Usually these groups follow or move ahead of my generals when fighting a faction of an opposing religion.
yes...once you build cathedral etc etc...you only get one per region so you end up with some regular priests....figure it as each region is a diocese and you get one bishop per.
fastest way is to setup a train...build your priest (preferably in a theologians guild city) and you start out with anywhere from 2 (bishop and blessed) to 4 piety on avg. Move them to rome (+2 piety) and then to Jerusalem (+3) piety and you got anywhere from 7-9 piety w/o any traits from doing anything. Then go find a low religion or wait for a cardinal promotion and you got 8+ priests only.
