Default How detrimental is farming to public order in SS6.4?

As an old Rome fan, I know that mass farming was pretty much the nail in the coffin for regional stability. More farms meant more people which meant more squalor (god I hated squalor) and that always led to people being pissed off, in Barbarian Invasion if nothing else.

My question is, do I have the same problem with SS? Is an increase in population bound to lead to civil unrest like it almost always seemed to do in Rome, or are people better behaved?

They increase growth and income, nothing else, I think.

I agree with you. Both in Rome and Medieval 2 I did the best I could to prevent growth because of squalor. In SS 6.4 though I do the exact opposite.

Firstly, increasing city level is very hard beyond minor city. Many cities require high chivalry generals to reach large city level, and I haven't seen one city yet that can reach huge city level without a general. So while in Rome and Medieval 2 I tried to keep taxes on very high, here I always set them to low.
Second, higher population levels mean increased income from trade, which is quite a lot here. In vanilla it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

All-in-all, I always keep my taxes to low and cities that aren't newly conquered are well over 120% Public Order without generals. Farms are one of the first upgrades I make.

Yeah, but the increased population used to always lead to poor public order due to squalor, even with good sewage systems etc built there. Made me rage so much.

Cool. I have to admit I've been building farms as well, had my fingers crossed the whole time that I wasn't digging myself a grave, but that seems to be sorted.

Whenever I've had nothing to eat my attitude was pretty crappy!
