Default Constant CTD, "Unspecified Error" problems

I've been having a hard time playing the mod as every 2-3 turns I get a CTD no matter which faction I'll be playing. The CTD's occur usually when the computer is completing their turns, either during Sylvania of the Rebels turn, however on two occasions I had the game crash during the Dwarfs turn and once during Reiklands turn. Moreover, I've found that in my Talabecland campaign when I destroy the Orc Rebel stack in the Elven ruins near Talabheim I will ALWAYS experience a CTD after the battle ends, and afterwards the save in which I fought the battle will be corrupted and unplayable.

I followed the instructions to improve stability; downloaded and installed the mod with virtualstore deleted and UAC disabled, I ran the installation and the game as the administrator, I disabled autosave and I got rid of all the files designated in the post installation cleanup. I'm running the game on windows 7, I have non-gold kingdoms 1.5 with no steam and I downloaded the mod through the new links provided by HP to megaupload (did not use Reddwarf's torrent, although I have it downloaded on my computer).

I posted earlier in a larger CTD related thread but got no responses, I was just wondering if there were any further suggestions anyone had on ways to stop this constant CTD problem, as I really really really want to play this mod (been a Warhammer fan since I was 9). Unfortunately for myself I'm not well versed in computers and specifically problems with files/codes etc.

Honestly I am at a loss on what to try next, as so far nothing has worked. I was thinking that I should reinstall M2TW and Kingdoms, as when I had originally installed them I still had my virtual store folder and UAC enabled (don't know if that would make a difference). I never thought this would make a difference since I can play SS and TATW without problems, it just seems to be this mod in particular. Also, is it possible that my download may be the problem? Should I try to install the mod with the torrent download instead of the megaupload? Or if I re-download the mod in parts would that possibly fix any flaws that may have occurred in my first download? (Would rather download the mod in parts as I find it easier, but if the torrent will help then I'll try that)

Sorry for the long winded post, but I'm very frustrated at this point and just want to get the mod working. Thanks in advance for any solutions/suggestions/help, its great appreciated!!!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am running the 1.4.4 English Complete version of the mod with NO submods, just the mod itself.

To fix any errors and get the game working CTD free, I recommend doing the following:

1.) Re-install both Medieval II & Kingdoms (Make sure that there is no extra "security"/additional permissions applied that would prevent the overwrite of files.)
2.) Update Kingdoms to v1.05 using the correct patch
3.) Download CoW 1.44 using the 5 part download
4.) Install CoW using the provided instructions and afterwards complete the post-install cleanup.

Sorry for the late reply, been really busy with work lately.

I've done all the steps you outlined, re-installed and re-downloaded everything and still I get a lot of CTDs, both on the campaign map and after battles are finished (when I click continue on the battle statistics screen). I honestly don't know what to do next.

Be sure to turn off your UAC and delete your VirtualStore folder. Those two are what causes start-up failures more often than not.

too bad COW CTD are such pain in the ass really, it ruins the mods which is imo one of the very best. i fear even fans will get bored a day or another. unfortunatly.
i really think the team should put all its energies to coding coding coding fixing bugs again and again, perhaps even redo the whole campaign script from the scratch, the traits etc to make sure everything works.
honestly i see preview of new units, hobgoblins, new ogres etc, it is fantastic honestly and very well done. but imo it is REALLY not the priority.

I have done so, and I've triple checked them both (restarted my computer and checked to see if the folder or UAC settings were returned to normal- virtualstore remained deleted and UAC remained off). I followed all the instructions, is there perhaps a submod I could download that reduces the amount of CTDs?

Also, I find that the CTDs are more random. For instance, I'll get one during the AI turns and then when i go to restart the game as admin I'll get another during the intro video. Then when I finally get into the campaign I'll usually experience another after a battle concludes (mostly when the enemy sallies from a settlement that I beseiging). Since I've re-installed everything (including M2TW and Kingdoms WITH UAC and Virtualstore off/deleted) I've bee getting the CTDs about every 3 turns with repeated CTDs once the first one hits. In my Talabecland campaign I made it to turn 3 before I got my first, and then by the time I got to turn 4 I had experienced 4 more CTDs.

Are you using Steam to run Kingdoms/CoW?

Did you run the CoW installation files as "Administrator"?

Have you completed the post-installation cleanup of the "Call_of_Warhammer" folder?

Do you have trouble running vanilla Kingdoms/other mods besides CoW?

No I am not using steam to run Kingdoms/CoW

Yes I installed and play the game as administrator every time

Yes I followed the instructions provided and deleted the folders outlined, I also replaced my existing descr_missions with the one provided in the "additional files" folder.

No I don't have any trouble running Vanilla kingdoms or SS/TATW, I haven't reinstalled them since I deleted all of my M2TW programs in order to get a fresh install w/o UAC on, so I don't know if that has changed recently. However, I've been playing both those mods for close to a year now and haven't had problems with either.

Try re-installing Medieval II & Kingdoms into a different directory/folder. It could be possible that some hidden variable is tampering with the folder Kingdoms is currently in.

Yeah I'm getting the same problems and I've done literally everything that has been recommended. It is a problem with the mod, not me. I can run other mods perfectly and seeing such outlandish suggestions, while helpful and very much thank you for the attempted assistance, such as 'cleaning the install folder' or vague and generic stuff like 'run as an admin' does not fill me with confidence.

I also support the idea that the team should stop making new albeit wonderful content and actually make it so the mod iworks properly. Like every other mod out there. It's just absurd, it really is.

Where did you download the mod from?

Also, did you follow the additional installation instructions? http://bit.ly/kvlnXc

Seeing all this problems and the help that is offered, it pains to say, but yes it is mostly the user not the 1.4.4. mod.
It is running very smoothly, very rare cds - not more than all the other mods or vanilla games I played since years.

The main reason for problems seem to be related to the English downloads. For example the torrent I used some months had 2 small files missing. They got lost somewhere while downloading.

Now the point is: these problems do not concern the Russian modders! It is not their business to fix our English download problems. So they very well can add as much new stuff as they want to their mod, as it is working fine.

If there are problems (like in the beginning with 1.4.1 etc) they fix it or just disable the troublemakers (like the dog units).

Is it a shame that a mod like this suffers because of such unnecessary problems? yes! But please don't blame it on the wrong people or guesses.
This mod needs a simple and proven and tested executable file which is handeling the installation. And a simple patcher. And a reliable tested download. Just like other big mods.

Which method did you use to install the game?

Did you use the official download, RedDwarf torrent or my 5-part download?

I used your 5 part download, used the site megaupload to get the 5 parts. 1.4.4 complete has everything right? I don't need to download and install the original game first before I download and install this? Only asking because I was reading HP's new updated install info and it says the order of install goes 1.4-music-1.4.4. I wasn't sure if that 1.4.4 was just the patch or the complete english translation1.4.4 that I've been downloading.

Correct, my 1.44 install is all inclusive. You don't need to download any additional patches.

When you completed the post-install cleanup, could you have deleted an important file by mistake?

Well its always possible but I doubt it since I've re-install and completed the cleanup very carefully multiple times all with the same result, I don't think I'd be stupid enough to make the same mistake every time.

I deleted all the RWM files, the string.bin files, better water and the three descr files regarding water, deleted the world/maps/base folder, copy/pasted and replaced the existing descr_missions with the one provided in the "additional info" folder of the download, and I deleted the three seige_engine/texture folders that were specified :S.
