Default Sooo...I learned a useful thing today

Never...ever siege moria with silvan elves...ever
1800 men soloed by 10 balrogs
Only because I probably rained them with about 500 arrows per second
    /facepalm
My campaign now is pratically lost because I had my best generals and troops in there, I planned to take moria and hold it from the fury of OoTM but now I will suffer a harsh counter attack =P

Now a good question is...how the hell melkor lost with thousands of these lol

My history with 1st and 2nd age is pretty rough but

Valar eventually comes down to help the elves, (basically a bunch of slightly weaker Melkors running around for the good guys) with probably many of their own underlings and kicked some butt

A couple elves have killed Balrogs (don't hold me to that)

Dude, your doing it wrong! Moria usually has a very small Garrison. I captured it before turn 20. Just get a ballista, NEVER lay siege to spawn the Balrog, just walk right in with an assault rather than siege. Easy cheesy. Lost less than 50 men.

    No, no, no!

What is the point of Barlog then? It's one of the game features and you are supposed to fight against it and lose some of your men That will make the win more epic

This should goes to Tolkien Discussion
The Balrogs are CORRUPTED from Ainur, Morgoth didn't made them.

Tolkien intended a balrog in a very different way than it was made in the movie. Not so huge and not invincible. I remember that in the Silmarillion it is told that an army of elves won agaisnt an army of balrogs. Their generals ended up killing each other in a duel. Or so I remember.

The "general" you're thinking of is Glorfindel and the balrog is Gothmog

Please leave your name if you should decide to +rep me!

Well this is the older version of Silmarillion.
In his final texts of the First Age he clearly stated that the Balrogs were 10. plus Gothmog=11 Balrogs 4 fell in Gondolin (along with Gothmog)
and the rest [save one] fell during the War of Wrath. A balrog, were tall, about twice as tall as an ordinary man and had NO wings.
When I was playing Lothlorien and sieged Moria and Balrog spawned i waited to the last turn of the siege and played it and lost with 7 Galadhrim Archers, two generals, and galadhrim warriors... then i loaded again and autoresolved it. And Voila i won loosing only 100 men...

Yeah I did some stuff wrong, I got pissed in the half of the battle and sent all my men to fight the balrogs, well atleast I killed one!

But about the melkor stuff, I mean, he probably had more orcs than mordor and OoTM together and armies of balrogs, but probably the game version of the balrog is overpowered compared to the real stuff (which I believe it is, unless the 10 balrogs were ancient mighty generals and not simple spawn, otherwise if each balrog could single handed slay about 380 elves I can't see how even a Valar's Army could match melkor power..)

Of course those barlogs are the same as ancient barlogs and I think that tens thousands of elves (which were far more powerfull than TA elves) could match them

Ecthelion was the elf who slew Morgoth during the fall of Gondolin (and he died in the act). Glorfindel did the same with an unnamed balrog while escorting some surivors of the fall of Gondolin, he died also.

Don't lie, Glorfindel can't be killed.

I found Rome a city of bricks and left it a city of marble.

Ecthelion killed Gothmog, lord of Balrogs. Glorfindel tackled a Balrog off of a cliff, because he's that badass. Both died, but Mandos didn't want to mess with Glorfindel, so he let him go (Glorfindel is sometimes considered the Chuck Norris of the First Age)...
The Elves of the First Age were far mightier (and more numerous!) than the elves of the Third Age. Furthermore, there were only a handful of Balrogs (originally, Tolkien had armies of Balrogs, but he later changed this to just a handful. I've seen the numbers 13, 11 and 7 mentioned for total number of Balrogs. Any could be correct.)

+Rep for anyone who can translate! (The above)

The valuable lesson is: never fight big bad dudes, because they'll kill you. Let others kill them. Or join them. I prefer the latter XD.

How the hell do you lose? What's that, losing? I kicked the Balrog's ass with less men than you had. @Russian Gondor: Moria has a garisson script, if you attack it, you'll get a big army+balrog against you so how do you do that?

No idea, all I remember is I tromped in with the ballista, did an auto attack (no siege). It only spawns if you siege.

    Default balrogs advice and advice?

Balrog has incredibly high armour and most units cannot touch them.
I found two strategies for fighting the balrogs without a work around:
    1) wait for a low census and then attack with a large archer stack. Surround the city and the balrogs will smash only a part of your army. Heavy armoured spears are the best to soften the blow.
Once most of the defenders are dead rush everyone into the central square and wait 4 minutes while the balrogs smash away.

Keep your generals away from them!

    2) Attack once and lose. The second invasion they didn't reappear. Is this a glitch in my game?
