    Default True Peace?

I was wondering if anyone could share some stories of honest ceasefires with neighboring nations. It seems that The Cimbri, Averni, and I (Rome) have and actual, mutual peace. I have my frontier set up along the Rhine just like the real Roman Empire. And at first, there was alot of fighting but after a while we negotiated a ceasefire and for the last 40-50 turns almost nothing has happened. In fact, we're allies now. I've just been expanding into Greece while my western borders remain quiet.

I just think it's neat and adds a sense of realism to the game when not everyone of your bordering nations is trying to pound you into oblivion.

Also, in case you're wondering. The Cimbri are not weak (although the Averni are). The Cimbri control alot of Central and Eastern Europe and are one of the strongest nations in the game. I'm quite surprised they don't try to fight me. It's gonna be alot of fun when they do finally decide to break the peace. All hell's gonna break loose.

Only true peace i have ever had with the ai is if i am their protectorate, they'd stick to it forever unless i went to war with a mutual ally and they sided with them. Then they'd go neutral and more than likely start a war not long after.

Playing as Rome (Italy, Greece, and North Africa so farI seem to have a good thing going with the Dacians .. I've let them keep anything east of Lower Pannonia (the eastern pannonia) and north of Pella, so they seem to be happy so far even though they seem to be allied to all my enemies.

They even offered me a gift! Sure, it was 220 denarii, but it's the first time that the AI has ever given me a gift .. normally they hate my guts.

Next they'll claim you stole it and make a war on you to reclaim it, this will have nothing to do with their borders being next to yours of course

No such luck for me. I (Rome) am basically at war with everybody except for the nations I defeated and are now isolated (Carthage in Lepcis Magna and Spartans in Crete). Every nation that comes to border me is declaring war on me, mostly without any reason. The AI in RTW is very bad when it comes to diplomacy. You can make an alliance and the next turn they'll stab you in the back and twist the dagger. It's like diplomacy and the armies do not even communicate with each other. I do enjoy the AI in MTW2 better, there the Ai is not so akin to breaking treaties and alliances.

I like to use the forced diplomacy to make Protectorates for factions that are defeated in a war by me, but those that I don't want to have destroyed yet. This makes it realistic because they are unlikely to attack you while that Protectorate status is there. In my campaign right now, I have the Averni, Pergamon, and the Ptolemaics as protectorates because they have lost recent wars with me.

I can not get anybody to accept being my protectorate. What am I doing wrong? I have them down to their last settlement and they still spit in my face when I offer it. This happens everytime so I am forced to kill the faction off when I don't want to. The worst was with Macedonia, they had 1 settlement left but I wanted to keep them alive to be a buffer between myself (Pergamum) and Rome. They refused several times, i even offered them a large sum of money. I was forced to destroy them before the Romans did.

Thats because the AI is stupid. One time i forced Pergamon to be my protectorate and they still had like 2-3 cities left with good amount of troops. A few turns later they attacked me, because my forces were concetrated somewhere else and i didnt have enough armies to cover every attack.

Just do what alot of people do, if the AI is in a tough spot and refuses to capitulate, force diplomacy their arse!

I keep hearing this force diplomacy concept. What is exactly? I was convinced it means to force them to accept a protectorate by blocking their income, but that's not the case.

    Start negotiations with a faction
Propose what you want to and click on the "?" sign on the top right corner of the window
Advisor portrait pops up and then you click on the "Show me how" button.
The AI is then forced to accept what you just proposed.

A similar thing is done when you completely destroy a faction.
    Open up your diplomacy tab
    Click the "?" sign
    Show me how button
And you're now on a ceasefire with the faction you've just destroyed.

Before you'd still be considered at war with said faction so others who might have been allied with that one wouldnt want say an alliance with you.

Sounds like cheating, but considering what a mess the RTW AI is, I might not feel guilty at all.

Depends how you use it. Say you've beaten Pontus down to one city and you don't want to destroy them, you force diplomacy a protectorate, in real life Pontus would give up, but the a.i doesn't seem to understand that one province and a rag tag army with poor finance is not a good position to be stubborn from. So its just making the a.i do what it should do.

Hey guys, is force diplomacy pre-set in the rs2 d/l or do you have to install it seperate?
