I'm not picking on SO, but a lot of popular metal bands have these names. Are these not hugely bad influences on the teens listening to the songs? I think this is as much a problem as when someone says "Yeah, rap makes you wanna pop a cap in ya ass."

i think the difference is metal advocates a reclusive lifestlye of contimplation on the cruelty of mankind. Rap advocates a dangerous gangster culture (in SOME cases). One is malignant and the other is stagnant

Rap is popular among all kids, and encourages good kids to join gangs, metal is only popular among the loser goth kids who are more likely to flip out and kill people anyway...

I don't know why a lot of bands have violent names but they are almost all anti-violent I have seen napalm death i concert for exemple and one of the first thing they stated is how napalm death is an anti war band and taht how they think the war in Irak is stupid and all

and usually those bands have anti violence lyrics too.

    exemple:

    megadeth-holy wars

    Brother will kill brother
    Spilling blood across the land
    Killing for religion
    Something I don't understand

    or

    kreator-impossible brutality

    All I see is Terror
    All I see is pain
All I see is mothers dragging children to their graves
A curse as old as time, An armageddon misery
Spectators of a World in ruins

so I do not think metal has a bad influence but there is some exeptions and all

    Hey, that's Sextus Loverlord!

Anyway, a lot of Metalheads complain about how Metal is targeted for it's percieved encouragement of violence whereas rap is ignored.
The thing about most of the bands that you highlighted is that they're underground and their following consists of people usually over the age of 18.

Vio-lence, Annihilator, Overkill, Artillery, Slayer and Nuclear Assault are all *classic* Thrash bands and are appreciated for their music rather than the "violence they preached". If you check out the lyrics of Nuclear Assault, they're almost always either political or anti-war. Artillery sing about Orwellian themes. Sodom is also an anti-war song - read the lyrics to the song, "remember the fallen".

The only band from that list that actually promotes hatred is Graveland (a one-man Black Metal band that promotes Woatanism/White Supremacy).

You must always keep in mind that Metal has always been against the mainstream. So where the mainstream is religious, Metal is anti-Christ, anti-God - it's just normal for it. However, unlike rap, it doesn't encourage drug-abuse, sex with multiple partners, oral sex with multiple partners, killing "gangstas" and looking at the police as your enemy.

Thats if the lyrics are actually audible - i for one listen to metal mainly for the musical skill. for lyrics there are far better bands and styles.

surely they would be white metal? lol

Nope, white metal is for christian blackmetal bands .
Bands like Graveland(that makes ok musik in my book) and usually known as NSBM(National socialist black metal)

*coughs* I guess you didn't notice these guys, "Nocturnal Mortum" who are far more extreme then Graveland.
Of course the name is spelled wrong, it is Nokturnal Mortum.
    Nokturnal Mortum is excellent btw.

people beleive that rock and rap influence people WAAAAY too often. Sure music has a impact on kids but its mental effects are generaly temporarily.

Ever wondered why in weight training places alot of people listen too angery music, because it self empowers you too and extent. the same waylight music can make you feel comfortable other music can do the opposite.

the point is that although music does influence culture its because of the artists and not the mbands and music itself.many kids act that way because they see it in the surrounding culture that is that way for a huuuuge list of reasons

Let's just hope they were fascist communist kittens who were on their way to international fascist communist fair.

Listening to metal never made me want to kill someone or worship the devil.

    Metalheads hate Goths and vice-versa
I am a metalhead and I dislike goths with a passion. A real goth (not a trailer park witch and her homo boyfriend) will not like the absolute brutality that is a band like Slayer. A metalhead, like myself, loves that brutality.

Yes, most of these bands have anti-voilence in their lyrics - Death, Artillery, Kreator, and so on. Behemoth's lyrics are philosophical. Not many kids listen to those bands seeing as they've been around 20 years. I play this sort of music, and my band mates are usually around 30-35. The other guitarist is 34.

You have a certain mentality, a "you vs them" and i know it is hard to see, but it is only your imagination which makes up enemies everywhere. I haven't professed anything but being neutral so why Do you feel the need to defend yourself from me?. Truly What are you defending? when there is nobody attacking?

There's also plenty of rappers with average bodies and even obese ones... Fat Joe, Suge Knight, Big Pun (who, according to Wikipedia, died of a heart attack in 2000), the Notorious B.I.G...

And speaking of dead rappers, Tupac isn't exactly an example of a healthy person either
