    Default Pat Robertson targets Islam

Outspoken US Christian evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson has accused Muslims of planning world domination,
    and said some were "satanic".
On his live television programme, The 700 Club, he said radical Islamists were inspired by "demonic power".
A US religious liberty watchdog called the comments "grossly irresponsible".

Mr Robertson had to apologise recently for calling for Venezuela's president to be killed,
and saying Ariel Sharon was struck down by divine retribution.
His latest comments were expunged from The 700 Club's website, but Mr Robertson's Virginia-based Christian Broadcasting Network confirmed them with a transcript.

On the programme, the 75-year-old preacher responded to a news item about the reaction of Muslims in Europe to the publishing of cartoons satirising the Prophet Muhammad.
The footage showed Muslims screaming "May Allah bomb you! May Osama Bin Laden bomb you!"

Mr Robertson said the pictures "just shows the kind of people we're dealing with. These people are crazed fanatics, and I want to say it now: I believe it's motivated by demonic power. It is satanic and it's time we recognize what we're dealing with".

He went on to say that "Islam is not a religion of peace",
and "the goal of Islam, ladies and gentlemen whether you like it or not, is world domination".
Mr Robertson said in a statement later he was referring specifically to terrorists as being motivated by Satan.

The Reverend Barry W Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, called the comments "grossly irresponsible".
"At a time when inter-religious tensions around the world are at an all-time high, Robertson seems determined to throw gasoline on the fire," he said.
Mr Robertson, who says his programme is watched by a million Americans daily, has come under intense criticism for recent comments.
He suggested that American agents should assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez , and said the stroke that left Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in a coma was God's punishment for Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
In both cases he issued an apology within days.

It is evident that Pat Robertson speaks for himself. I don't consider him to be a credible Christian but rather the leader of a cult.

The goal is Islam IS world domination. There are these so-called religious reformers in almost all Islamic countries these days preaching complete adherence to religion, which, they say, would lift them out of their misery and cause the subsequent expansion of Islam.

I think the fact that Americans are scared of "extreme islam" is friggin pathetic. WE're Americans, find your balls, find your spine, and quit perpetuating this cycle of fear.

edit-remember, if Americans are paralyzed with fear then the terrorists win. We used to be a proud, strong nation....WTF happened?!

Just like people said in the 1930s that the goal of judaism is world domination... sad that history repeats itsself.

I don't think that back in the 30's, the Jews wanted to dominate the world but at the moment, they run the most powerful country in the world.
Muslims are looking at this age as a political and intellectual awakening for them because the masses are increasingly becomming aware of the fact that their lack of propper, modern education and training has caused them to lose any little political power that they had in world affairs. They don't wanna "run the world" but they're looking forward to developing some muscles that they'd be able to flex in the not-so-distant future.

Furthermore, the Jews have always been a very small group whereas the Muslims are more than a billion people spread accross 3 continents.

Thats the thing, they didn't. People just made others believe that just like with islam now.

What? Israel is not the most powerful country in the world. And the U.S. is not run by jews....only the media is Nah joking...there sure are a lot of jews, but I dont think they technically "run" anything. They certainly have little influence on politics...and when they do run, they run as secular jews, not religious ones. Which is the way it always should be, imo.

A lot of American foreign policy is not just pro-Israel but it almost works on Israel's agenda:

    - Military/other aid to Israel
    - Rejection of the legitimate election winner in Palestine
    - Invasion of Iraq (Israel is now secure from the Saddam threat)
    - Presence of American troops in Saudi Arabia
    - Nuclear deal with India
    - The Iran issue (Iran doesn't have ICBM but guess who it actually has in it's range)

This isn't just co-incidence. All these actions/policies have been highly influenced by the Jewish lobby.

So what? All the muslims have to do is immigrate to the U.S., merge into society, and starty their own lobby. Nobody is stopping them. The Jews worked hard to get to where theyre at today (in the U.S.), but I think people claiming that jews have too much pwer is unfounded. They really dont have that much power, really...sure they can lobby but so can anyone else. Theres a lot of jews in the entertainment feild, but not so much in government...so until we have a jewish president or vice president, or a jew controlled congress or something...I think all these claims are basically unfounded.

We help Israel because theyre our allies. Thats all there is to it. We like them more than we like Saudi Arabia and Iran. Can you blame us?

    For hypocracy, yes.
    Bush's South Asia tour:
    India = nuclear deal
Pakistan, a country that risked civil war for the War on Terror = pat on the head.

There are countless other examples. Either they clearly say that, "we percieve you as a future threat" or they stop showing such double-standards.

Well well well - a christian extremist. And a million Americans watch his show? Welly welly welly....

Its at least comforting to know the moderate Christians and members of TWC think hes spouting rubbish. Is this the same for most Americans or do you guys know anyone who actually listens to him?

I fail to see how he can be allowed to broadcast religious intolerance to the world

Thats what I thought too, and it turned out I was wrong...you cant censor anybody in America for just talking. Thats all he's doing really, just talking, and he has every right to do that. I dont like it....you dont like it...but we cant do anything about it.

edit-President Bush is a moron, youll get no argument out of me there.

Pakistan is an unstable military dictatorship, India is a stable democratic country. I agree with him.

Democracy is a man-made system and is hence not perfect. It's worked in India to some extent but it's been undermined constantly with incidents such as the Gujarat massacare, etc. We had our share of democracy in the 80's and 90's. The country almost became bankrupt and Pakistan was about to be labelled a failed and a terrorist state. Do you know that if we have a truly Democratic system in Pakistan, half the seats would go to the religious parties that openly support the Taliban and their teachings? The opinion of 10 wise men is better than that of 10,000 fools.

Furthermore, the government in Pakistan is not unstable, please negate this with some facts.

He's an idiot, and we have the right to laugh at him and tell him he's a twit.

I wish the christian extremists like that show would get it out of their systems that Islam is this big nasty Sauron thats out to destroy all of the world. We are such Drama queens.

We invade a country and go "Dont shoot! We are Liberators! Saviors! Bringers of democracy and porn!"

We get attacked by a group who lacks the collected nature of being a nation (As our Soviet and Japanese, and Ayatolla-Iranian enemies did), and suddenly theres people like Pat Robertson who believe having any relation to the attackers is cause for you being in their ranks. That reminds me of a BBC documentary on North Korea and the whole 'genetic punishment' they have, where your killed for having been related to someone who was in their mind, bad.

Isn't that kind of the point we want to dismiss in the middle east? Hating all of America because of a few americans you encountered, or the policies and military of the United States? Yet here some are, doing the very same with Islam or Muslims because of the extremists.

It is unstable, its a dictatorship that rules over people that, like you said, are relgious extremists. You said they were elect taliban supporters, obviously these people dont like a secular dictatorship. Anyone can see this, you should look at your own words as proof.

Its almost universally agreed that Pakistan is unstable, why do you think we aren't sending tropps there with their permission? The governments excuse: they are unstable.

I'll leave the negation to the universally agreed fact that its unstable to someone else of this board, i have no time to argue well known facts. I'll just say what you said + constant assassination attempts. You should be able to figure out the rest yourself.

edit: An imperfect democracy is better than a imperfect dictatorship.
