Default What Makes a Battle 'Famous'?

Sometimes I have battles with half-stack armies containing no family members or famous generals, and it marks the campaign map with two swords and a 'site of a famous battle' note. However, recently I had a huge battle with two armies on either side, each one led by a family member, and the famous battle symbol didn't appear.

So what actually triggers the famous battle marker? I've read in a few places that it's a heroic victory, but I've had quite a few of them, none of which yielded a marker.

As far as I know it's a heroic victory you sure you didn't get it after the heroic victory?

Heroic Victories get it. IIRC there is a limit of ten on the map at any time, plus siege attacks and siege defenses and sallies don't get them.

ah didn't knew the limit of ten. so what happens after you hit those 10? you're not gonna see a new famous marker ever again?

Old ones get erased unfortunately. Or fortunately, depending on how you look at it.

ah ok. well yeah has it ups and downs i suppose. And it stops the map from being swamped in these markers :p

Pretty sure it's more than Heroic, you also need a high kill/death ratio, and it's quite likely that many losses even with proper K/D ratio will prevent battle from being "famous".

No one knows for sure as far as I know, maybe, just maybe best modders can shed more light on this matter.

Actually I managed to get a mark after a successfull siege defense of a forttress, which might be the factor here. It was in the Britannica-campaign, I was Norway fending off some Scots.

I think new ones replace old ones

Yes, and sometimes crushing losses create a marker too

I think the batle also has to be quite a large one, too. One unit of fuedal knights wiping out some archers with one charge will be a heroic victory, but not exactly famous

Are you sure there are only 10? Maybe they've changed that in SS6.1 as I'm pretty positive there are far more than just 10 in my campaign.

EDIT: Bloody hell you're right. I could barely find 3 in my campaign, and I've had quite a few Heroic Victories. The entire Middle East was filled with famous battle sites, but now no longer... This is so disappointing... I had battles that were absolutely amazing.

Do you know of any way to change the limit?

Anyone know of the config file where the 10 limit can be changed?

    It depends on 3 factors:
    1. BOP ratio should be against you
    2. Must be a heroic victory
    3. The battle must have been lasted for more than 10 minutes. I'm not sure about the minutes but it's definitely over 10, time matters.

Did you read my post in the past or have you noticed this yourself? I need to know this because very few players have checked it for themselves.

Only field battles can have a crossed sword icon, screenshot or otherwise i'm not believing it.

    No it's hardcoded.
And yes the data for it is stored somewhere, after 10 the only way to beat it to score a batter battle to eradicate the previous ones.

I have no idea if its doable, and my modskills are so strong that if i knew about them, the CIA would kill me...
But woudl htere be a way to finagle a screenshot or marker somewhere at each heroic victory, or maybe after each type of a selectable victory? Im usually too excited to remember to screenshot, and then paste my coup counting screens.
Ill admit, im in idjit. deal with it.
Something Naz' said above made the idea pop into my head..

I don't think it has to be a large battle. I had one where I was England, and the Scots invaded, and I met them on the road just north of York. They had a rather meagre army, and I approached them through the forrest west of the road and surprised them. I also think my family member was directly involved in combat. When it was over, I got a marker over the site. It's the only one I've had so far.

It's unfortunate that it only applies to one-sided victories (or losses), if I read this post correctly. It would seem that a battle outcome might make it more historic, based on the general outcome, rather than the differential. I had a battle recently where I was playing the Teutonic campaign as Novgorod. After supressing a rebellion in the east, I marched a family member to the west to releive a siege. In the battle, I skirmished with the pressing Teutons, continually pulling back, until I met up with our reinforcements from the village, and we subsequently enveloped the invaders.

It was pretty cool to pull off, and seemed fairly heroic. Perhaps they'll have something when they eventually make Medieval 3 Total War that lets you mark historic battles for yourself (maybe with some commentary or something).
