Default PS3 connecting to Logitech X340 speakers

Bit specific I know but I have a PS3, Logitech X340 speakers and a Samsung LED TV.

I want to hook the speakers through the TV and I've got a video adapter from logitech to do that. This takes orange/black/green cables from the speakers to standard red/white audio cables.

The problem is no sound when the TV is set to external speakers. The TV though has lots of fancy connectors but not red/white audio, that uses a single yellow connector with the red/white/yellow AV cable. Well I'm not using yellow so hoped the red/white would work anyway but seems not to.

I don't know if the cable is bad (got another r/w only to try) or the switch to single AV connection screws the speakers up again.

I do have another, older Samsung LCD TV which does have single audio inputs so I'll try that after trying the red/white cable, just wondered if anyone has a similar setup/problem?

A picture of your TV's outputs or the model number would help me help you. The single yellow plug is typically video not audio.

yeah that would help! It is one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-UE22.../ref=de_a_smtd

So the single yellow is the composite in, it came with a connector that you can plug your composite cable into, I thought (i fact I could have sworn I've done it before) that you can just use the audio L-R (ie the red/white jacks) and not the yellow. It also has a component in (Y/Pb/Pr).

However, I just found a spec on which and looks like it doesn't do stereo output so I rather suspect the speakers and TV are not ideally suited. I probably need to trade the speakers in for a new set which will connect properly. They're just too big for my living room where the PC is which is why I wanted them on the SPS3 but maybe not to be.

    [UPDATE]
OK I think I know why it doesn't work on either TV, because they are connecting to the PS3 via HDMI. I tried the second TV (not sure the model, it does have separate RCA outs but still didn't work). I think I have 2 options, get an Optical audio to analog audio converter (about £40 it looks like on amazon), or ebay the X540's - the sound from the TV isn't bad anyway, or I could buy another set but as I said the sound isn't terrible as is.
