    Default Sea battles

Hi all just a quickie, our mod and another have been working closely making sea battles for Rome total war, it's now been cracked and just has to been implemented now onto our new version of the mod. Any who, just wondering we have been able to do this for rtw, are the EB team planning it for med 2

All the best with your mod, it's an inspiration your work to all of us modders

AFAIK, its just a landbattle with chariots modelled as ships fighting on a flat blue landscape. Its an area that requires a lot of work, and from what the team has seen of it we don't think that the work we would need to put into it would be worth it for the affect that it provides. That process has been around for awhile, and certainly its first incarnations were less than impressive. I would be very interested to see how well it has been implemented now that we are several years down the line.

Regardless, however, its an incredible feat of ingenuity and talent. Any mod that can implement something like that deserves a hell of a lot of praise.

Well from what foot said, ours is going down a different route, don't quote me on this but I think it worked by actually having the built in animated water, but going it the propeties of a river crossing so units can walk on it and not die, we then use the system on elephants as they are very slow and have a realistic movement for ships anyway unlike chariots which are very fast. Hope this clears things up.

Anyway if we can do this rtw alex, u should certainly be able to do it on kingdoms I should have though, it relies just on a load of scripts I think but once again don't quote me on this.

For how you kill to explain, you have the ship model, then you archers on board and a built in onager or ballista on a swivel, for an example of that here is a pic, but please ignore the phalanx pikemen, that was during some testing.

So if you ram a ship, that's an instant kill, archers and ballistas can damage ships and providing enough can also kill, to help with releasim unlike previous attempts there's animations for ours rowing, and like when the ship starts to move, the sails and ropes tighten.

Hope this explains it a bit more for you all

Found out that with improved medieval scripts that you would be able to board other ships and attack crew unlike with rtw

Whoa!... if that's the case, isn't that somekind of important breakthrough in modding M2TW? Wonder why nobody seems interested?
Using such sea battles will certainly not be implemented in EBII -- I guess... and hope! (because it would only increase the work load for the team) --, but wouldn't such a development bolster the M2TW-engine's standing as best modding basis?

    PS: Good job, jmilan77!
