    Default No map.rwm

I've been trying to mod TATW to add a few more mercenaries. When I change the descr_mercenaries txt file and delete the map.rwm the game just kicks me back to the loading screen. After closing back out I have no logs to see what went wrong and no new map.rwm . In fact the Imp campaign will play without a map.rwm at all. Why is that possible? The fellowship campaign still has it's map.rwm but the one in the base folder doesn't exist anymore and the game starts and seems to run fine.

It could be in the base folder...

It was located in the base folder. Now it's nowhere to be found and the game still runs.

I'd like to continue a little modding of the campaign folder but untill I resolve this odd occurance I'm stuck.

Do you have all files and folders unhidden in Folder Options?

If so, have you used the search function in the top-right corner of computer?

It was visible before. The map.rwm for the fellowship campaign is still in it's folder. I've done this many many times with RTW, I'm not a newbie to modding and I have never seen this happen. I don't understand how it will still run without a map.rwm file. Could it be using the other map.rwm in the fellowship campaign?

I just tried the same thing on the fellowship campaign. I got the same result. The game will play either campaign without a map.rwm file anywhere, strange.

All I'm saying is if you are using Vista or 7 with Medieval2 and Kingdoms installed in the defaut folder with the UAC enabled, Windows security will play games with them. It will hide them in virtual sore or roaming which are hidden by default.

I have been mooding this since Medieval One and I have been dealing with this security level since Vista was released hence my questions that you have not answered.

Edit: Starting a new campaign is the only way to generate one, too, if you have not done so.

Yes I started new campaigns, played a few turns making sure basic functions worked, though I don't think the last part mattered. As I've read just starting a new one generates the new rwm.

I have just recently upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit. This is the first time I have tried to mod with it. I just did another search this time of my entire Win program file and found a copy stored in an odd place. It's in the appdata folder which I can't see when I look for it normally. I noticed that before with mods for ShogunII. Obviously I could stand to learn a little more about my new operating system. My files appear to be un-hidden since the hidden box isn't checked.

I'll see if deleting it from there will work. How do you keep win7 from not backing up this file?

Not only in the base, but in the campaign folder too. CoW managed to get a working map without the base folder... so map.rwm is in both places.

The entire contents of the base folder is in the imperial_campaign folder, for CoW. That's not to say everything was there when the map was generated...

I'm having trouble deleting this file. Everytime I start the game again the comp finds the deleted map.rwm file not allowing the game to create a new one. How do I finally kill this file? Is this part of some restore point or backup program?

What is this c:user/myname/AppData/Local/Virtualstore/ file? Thats where my comp keeps resurrecting my map.rwm file.

Can't. It has to generate it for the game to work.

Vista or Win 7? UAC enabled? Game installed in default folder? You do this, Windows will dump anything it feels us humans cannot handle in there including the map.rwm.

If you want to know how to defeat it at its own fgame, ask and I'll give you the steps I learned the har way when Vista was released four years ago.

Win7 64bit . I don't know what UAC stands for but the game is in the default location. It's a brand new install just to play TATW.

I was thinking maybe I could trick it by moving it to a USB stick and throwing that into a deep ocean trench. Maybe it won't back it up if I only move it instead of deleting MwaHaha...MwaHaha....

User Account Control, turn it off before installing M2 and any mods. Or just off all together if you don't want to be treated like a toddler by your PC.

Eothese has it right. I run Win 7 64bit.

    Disable the UAC. http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to...-in-windows-7/
I quit having other problems doing this to C: drive. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=397636
Then installing it in C:\Games got me away from Windows bs all togeter.

Got it. Thanks guys. I used the link to disable UAC, deleted my map.rwm from the virtual store file and started a new campaign. On quiting there was my new rwm file right back in the base folder as it should be. One typo fix later and I had my new mercs.

    Again Gentlemen, My Thanks
