    Default Newb questions

Just starting to really play RSII and it's a pretty awesome experience. Thanks to the team. A few questions though:

    1) How do I change to 1 turn recruitment? I saw people talking about it here and honestly I didn't even know you had the choice.

    2) Where do I select the smaller unit sizes (the vanilla default)? Larger sizes feel more epic but the game just isn't able to accomodate them in street fighting.

    3) Last night I besieged a well-garrisoned city which is hard fighting as the Parthians against the Seleucids, and I ran out of time even though I inflicted heavy casualties on the garrison. And my entire remaining army died automatically? What? I assumed I'd have another go at it next turn...? I prefer time limits on sieges but that seems a little rough, especially considering no other enemy armies in viewing distance on the strat map, and easy retreat to my conquered territory. Is this a setting I can change?

    1) You can choose that only in the launcher. Each mode is it's own program in away so you'll have to start a new campaign
    2) In the graphic settings. Doesn't work midgame
    3) You can disable the time limit for battles, the rest is cemented it, but you're probably just losing time assaulting them frontally. Outflank them and things will go much, much faster

For point 3, if your army has a red skull and sword in the corner of the generals picture pre-battle (The part with the choice to fight battle, auto-resolve or run) then if you don't win you will lose all your soldiers. Its quite annoying, but it has been there since vanilla.

Well it's their capital so I feel it's a good idea to take it while I've got an open shot. Nice that someone left a whole stack of multi-chevron upgraded Seleucids sitting in Persepolis though, guess that was a final middle finger to Roman players, haha. No idea how many Dahae its going to take to whittle that place down...

    Thanks for the answers though.

With my hordes swarming into the Fertile Crescent there's no way I'm restarting now, guess I'll just have to suck it up on the unit size thing. I'm actually not minding 0-turn recruitment even though this is my first TW mod to play with it. It beats paying maintenance on troops over a ten year period just to raise a stack.

Your army can still be completely annihalated even if it doesnt have that skull/sword sign, for example if you encounter battle somewhere far away from one of your cities and you choose to retreat or lose that battle, it will be decimated.

I hate when that happens, I was fighting in Spain and my decimated legion was hiding, then Carthage came out of nowhere with a full stack and I thought I could retreat, but noooooo, your 7-star general doesn't get that luxury.

Yeah I'm sure it's been whined about quite a bit but I'm pretty surprised at the harshness of the retreating system. Granted if you get hammer-and-anvilled against some city walls I can see there being a good chance of annihilation, and I actually don't mind it at all...spies and watchtowers become essential and valuable if you don't want to be save-scumming all the time. But it surprises me that such a good mod trips up on allowing "good" withdrawals. Ironically, under this system neither Hannibal nor Fabius Maximus would ever have survived their own campaigns. Hannibal because he was often so far from friendly zones of control, Fabius because he was always pressing the retreat button on purpose to harass Hannibal.

Dumbest question: where is it? I looked all through preferences last night and couldn't find it.

Will my governors/generals start to accumulate negative traits if I have too much money? I think the magic numbers in RTR used to be like 50k/100k. Same thing in RS?

PS Whoever made Spartan generals into heavy infantry needs a medal. What an awesomely hardcore faction decision.

Yeah, you do start getting bad traits... the first one is ''Mildly Extravagant'', which gives -1 Management. If you see this in any of your generals, it might be an idea to fill up your building queues. If you've already done this, then train moaaar armies to soak up the cash far worse traits happen when you stop building anything for a few turns in a settlement that has a governor in
