Default $18billion cash is missing in Iraq

The money supposedly given by USA to Iraq for oil sales and other assets since 2003-2004 is lost. Iraq Parliment speaker says it is up to $18bn the missing money.

The Bush administration flew in a total of $20bn in cash into the country in 2004. This was money that had come from Iraqi oil sales, surplus funds from the UN oil-for-food programme and seized Iraqi assets.

Officials in Iraq were supposed to give out the money to Iraqi ministries and US contractors, intended for the reconstruction of the country

It is unclear who lost the money and in which pockets they are staying is unknown.

Just 18B$? We're missing a couple of hundred billions.

Anyway, if they were intended to get 20B$ and to the ministries and the people just 2B$ arrived, some people must go to jail. Not that I'm that confident that the new Iraq is a place where the corrupt billionaires would go to jail though.

In there an honest debate to be had about whether Iraq actually owes the US any money? I realize the implications, I see both sides, and I'm torn on the issue. A US politician recently was reemed for suggesting as much.

    Why?

And this is nothing new, there is more money missing in Iraq then anybody would like to admit. I have a feeling we will never know the true extent of this.

We stole the money from the state's treasury.

God if your going to steal money, dont make it so obvious. Just take a little bit.

Besides I recently got an email from a sarge asking for my account number so he can wire some money through. He said he found it in Baghdad 5 years ago and hes still in Baghdad now and hes bout to leave.

18 billion $ handed over to Iraqi thieves without oversight, yet Republicans have an issue with expenditure intended to help their own citizens. You can't make it up.
