    Default Domvs Neavii (Imperiovs)

You enter a vine-covered archway leading up to a moderate sized Domus, as you approach the door an impressively sized slave greets you. "How may I help you Sir?"

    Character Information
    Character Name: Faustus Neavius Imperious
    Social Class: Plebeian
    Age: 34
    Offices Held:
    • Plebeian Tribune - 483 AUC to 484 AUC, 485 AUC to 486 AUC.

Personality: Faustus is a well-off Plebeian citizen of Rome. Faustus served his time as Tribunus Militum in Northern Italy having battled against the celts and other fierce barbarian hordes it made Faustus shut-off from normal human emotion. Faustus sees the world as a military thinker, everything he sees is black and white, no in between. Being a Plebeian Faustus has fostered a populist political ideology alongside his militarist ideals.

    Character Relationships:
Aulus Licinius Caldius - Plebeian Rival, Imperious has clashed numerous times with him in the Senate and seeks to remove him from power and standing within the Plebeian Council and the Senate.
Tiberius Cornelius Victor - Imperious is neutral with the Senator.
Marcus Sempronius Sophus - Imperious views the fellow Plebeian Senator favorably and as a political ally; his death was a shock to Imperious.
Flavius Julius Constantinus - Imperious shares a common bond of having served in the military with the man and as a possible political ally. His treason and political judgments made Imperious shy away from this Senator but his death has become a matter of conflict for Imperious.
Marcus Atrius Merula - Imperious sees the fellow Plebeian as a somewhat-Patrician sympathizer but believes he can be a political ally.

A slender man, roughly 5'7 in height, strides into the entryway of the domus. Dressed in fine garments, the man clearly has a taste for the finer things in life, yet there was something odd about him not typical in a Roman. His appearence seemed to reflect a Greek background, compounded by the arms he wore on his hip. Not the usual roman blade (although he still kept a fine dagger of roman make on his hip), he weilded an extremely ornate sheath holding the curved blade of a greek Kopis. The hilt ivory and golden, the man bore a striking resemblence to the companions of Alexander. while obviously not a descendent, it was clear the man was a military man, with a deep passion for horsemanship and cavalry.....a cavalry officer no doubt at some point.

Greetings, please alert your master that Flavius Julius Constantinus wishes to speak with him. please tell him to not rush, as this is merely a social call, not business.

Faustus arrived at the door personally as his slave had answered the door, Faustus who was wiping his hands with a towel, he had been outside gardening in his downtime. "Senator. Welcome to my home." Faustus made a gesture for the man to come in.

A wonderful garden you have here Senatore, i must say. I also enjoy the labor of gardening..it makes many a man go from tense to calm and able to think straight again.

    Constantinus eyed the garden admirably

I am Flavius Julius Constantinus, Sir, of the Julii. I have heard you are a military man? May i ask where you served?

Faustus smiled as he invited the Senator into his home. "I served in Northern Italy." Faustus rarely spoke flat out of his military service, it was an experience which he kept tight to the belt but he would not deny a fellow Senator the knowledge he sought. "I battled against the northern barbarians. Why do you ask?" Faustus eyed the Senator.

I too am a military man Senator. I understand tactics and strategy, and know that many times, politics and ideology are the downfalls of campaigns and nations. I however probably would not be well recieved if i voiced my military ideas...many in the army and the Senate have a massive fear and disdain for Cavalry. I myself have served in the Equites for a time, and when i left the army, i had traveled to Greece and learned many things on the power of the horse. my own blade i had aquired there. I have heard your arguments in the senate against raising more cavalry...which i wholeheartedly agree. Rome does not have the men or the horses to field a worthy cavalry force, and therefor must stay the course with infantry. How do you see this war progressing Senator?

"Before I answer that Senator, do not think I have anything against cavalry. It is far from that." Faustus smiled, attempt to reassure the Senator. "Cavalry is essential in this combat we fight but as of right now we are dealing with infantry to infantry combat." Faustus reminded himself of the barbaric infantry fighting he had lived through. "I'm sure you know that the Equites class is rather depleted right now." Faustus added. "I forsee this war going well for the People and the Senate of Rome, I just hope that it doesn't stall because of politics and ideology as you stated." Faustus offered the Senator a cup of his finest wine he had.

A Greek slave arrives at the front door. He carries a sealed letter.

'Greetings, my name is Kleitos, slave of Marcus Sempronius Sophus. My master wrote this letter, for your master's eyes only.'

He hands the person at the door a sealed letter, carrying the Owl of Sophus.

    Noble friend,

Elections have come upon is. I have noticed your sign up for the Plebeian Tribune. As we both know, you have my vote. Only last night I had a dream, and this was a dream to follow. My skills with finances have made me to go for Quaestor. I count on your support.

    Signed,

A letter arives bearing the blackbird seal:
    Senator Naevius,

It is with much regret that i must withdraw my support for you for the Plebeian Tribune's position for the coming election, the reason for this is that i am already indebted to your opponent Aurelius Lepidus.

I hope this will not affect our relations, but as you know, honour must be satisfied.

A messenger, wearing a hood, walks on the street. He notices the mass of other messengers trying to get in Imperious's domus. He chuckles, and waits until they are gone.

The messenger began to walk towards the domus, now revealing his face which was covered in white beard and scars. He could've looked very scary to the untrained eye, but a more experienced one would notice that his eyes are friendly and warm though his expression is neutral.

His name is Cassius, a plebeian. He gained a high rank in Corvenus's service, bearing letters back and forth. He is known for his courtesy and wisdom, but also for his straightness in speech. Corvenus used him when he wanted to impress the senator he is sending the letter to.

A rap is heard at the domus's door, a slave opens the door and got a little shock when he saw Cassius's face. Cassius grimaced, or was it a smile? The slave couldn't tell, but when he tried to solve that he noticed Cassius had already given him the letter. The slave took the letter, confused, and Cassius walked away with his slow, stable pace, leaving a trail of dignity and fear behind him.

The letter had no seal, a custom of the Julii.

    From

    Flavius Julius Corvenus

    Villa Corvenii, near Tiber.

Ave, senator. During the term, i heard many wise words coming from your mouth. But I also heard that you have a military training, and you served in Nothern Italy. You must know a lot about that place.

As I have nominated myself as Consul, i must make preparations. Preparations for the upcoming campaign which the noble senators had a discussion about. But I also am interested about you as a person. Come meet me at my Villa when you can.

    Sincerely, Flavius Julius Corvenus.

The young Aulus comes running up to the entrance and hands over his letter.

    My friend,

Lepidus is indeed quite a challenge to beat and even a positive man will see that there is a very big chance you will not be elected in the Tribune.

However, you have my vote. If it is not this term you are elected, you can strike next term.

    Good luck and warm greetings,

The runner, after leaving the mansion of Poplicola, arrives at the house of Imperious with an invitation. The letter is handed to the slave at the door.

    Salve my dear friend,

It has been a while since we have last spoken eachother. I therefore wish to invite you to my mansion, perhaps we can have a pleasant talk while enjoying a splendid meal. You are welcome every night.

I hope to see you soon.

A letter arrives bearing the seal of the blackbird,

    Senator Imperious,

I was wondering if we could maybe do a bit of vote swapping in this terms elections? You will undoubtedly be positioning yourself for the Tribunes chair, and as I am stepping down from there for this term, I will most definitely vote for you.

But I would also appreciate your vote for me as Praetor, as there is some unfinished business with a certain ex-Consul of ours that needs to be rectified.

I hope to see you soon to discuss this further maybe, my door is always open to friends.

    Salve,

    Marcus Atrius Merula

A messenger comes with a letter, and hands it to the slave.

    Ave, Senator Imperious.

You have propably noticed the strange allegiance between Caldius the troublemaker, our most esteemed Consul, Marcus, the second Consul, and Scaeva, the Praetor. I have my suspicions - what if they have allied? Allied for a purpose, and i fear that it is me. Two Consuls and Praetor, see how easy it is to get a man convicted of treason. If I will get thrown from the Tarpeian Rock, i will ask you to keep your eyes open. With such powers they could remove anybody from the Senate. Be cautious on your steps, esteemed senator.

    With best regards,

    Flavius Julius Corvenus.

    A letter arrives bearing the seal of the blackbird;

    Tribune Imperious,

I wish to know whether you will be running for Tribune again this term? At the moment the only contender is Caldius, and, we both know what that can lead to.

If you do enter the lists, I wish to offer you my full support as I believe you are a true man of the people sir.

    Salve,

    Consul Marcus Atrius Merula.

The Consul Merula arrives at the door to the Domus Neavii, knocks politely and waits. There are no lictors to be seen, the Consul is alone, wanting a private visit....

Faustus opens the door to see the face of the Consul and he smiles. "Welcome, please come in Consul." Faustus was somewhat shocked to see the Consul at his door...alone. Faustus's mind raced with hundreds of thoughts, too many to single out and even try to speak about. Faustus stepped aside for the Consul to come into his Domus.

Ave Tribune, I wish to speak with you about certain military matters, before I propose my bill.

I understand that you have certain 'ideas' for our armed forces? I remember in, what was it, my second year of the Senate? That you tried to pass a bill with elements of a standing army? I wish to try that again
. Marcus smiles knowingly, will you help me?

"I could indeed help you with that Consul, it was shot down very early and I do not believe that it was right for the Senate at the time to do that, but it is what was suggested." Faustus was almost embarrassed to have the bill be defeated so quickly, but it's how things in the Senate happened from time to time. "I doubt the Senate would support such a bill now either, unless you have knowledge which I do not?" Faustus questioned the Consul curiously.
