Keep going and see. As I said before, you can certainly lose two provinces from Ireland, and two from Great Britain. I'd just keep working until you run out of slots, then start deleting.

Your Anatolia- well, the green "province" that also encompasses parts of Syria and the Caucasus looks like it could do with between 12 and 18 cities in it, which I'll propose when you get onto it.

What the hell, I got bored. Proposed region boundaries for Anatolia, with capitals based at...

    Trebizond (Trabzon)
    Sinope (Sinop)
    Chrysopolis (Uskudar)
    Nicaea (Iznik)
    Abydos (Canakkale)
    Smyrna (Izmir)
    Sardis (Sart)
    Attaleia (Antalya)
    Iconium (Konya)
    Ankyra (Ankara)
    Caesarea (Kayseri)
    Seleucia (Silifke)
    Sis (Kozan)
    Antioch (Antakya)
    Latakia (Al-Ladhiqiyah)
    Aleppo (Halab)
    Edessa (Urfa)
    Melitene (Malatya)
    Amida (Diyarbakir)
    Lefkousia (Nicosia)
    Chandax (Heraclion)

If this is too many, merge Chrysopolis and Abydos into Nicaea, Ankyra into Sinope, Smyrna into Sardis, and Seleucia into Sis.

AS far as it goes, you look to aim historical accuracy, may I suggest you to contact the makers of Magyar Mod for accurate map and info for Hungary and in return, they will let you uses their magnificent models.

Suggestions would be excellent! As soon as I finish/edit Poland and Hungary, I'll go ahead and move on to Anatolia.

Speaking of Poland, is anyone pretty good with Polish geography? I'm putting up a draft of my region borders, please feel free to correct. (Follow the blue lines).

Wowzers. You really did get bored. +rep for that excellent work. I haven't looked into it all that closely, but I think at this point the Byzantines would control Trebizond, Sinope, Cyprus, Crete, and Rhodes, right?

EDIT: I took most of your advice, expect for the Philippoupolis in Paristrion. The old border Makedonia/Paristrion was at the Rhodope Mountains and moving it south to the Maritsa River makes Paristrion look disproportionately large compared to the rest of the Balkan provinces. I could also move Adrianoupolis to Philippoupolis, but I'm pretty sure Adrianoupolis was more important. Thoughts? Also, did we ever come to a consensus on Nikopolis? I heard Nikopolis, Naupaktos, and Arta.

    Correct, yes.

As for the coastal province, Nikopolis and Arta were both important. Nikopolis more so in 1080, but it would be eclipsed by Arta in the thirteenth century. Whatever you feel is best, really.

The Rhodope Mountains are to the south of Philippopolis (and certainly have nothing to do with Paristrion), so I presume you meant "Balkan Mountains" instead.
And Philippopolis was the third biggest city in the European lands of the Empire (after Constantinople and Thessaloniki), but I think Adrianople had stronger fortificaitons and was the actual seat of thema Macedonia.

Glad to have been of assistance! Looking forward to seeing your next parts.

By the way, regarding new factions and stuff, have you considered maybe moving the start date from 1080 to 1100? Means the player can have Crusaders in the Levant and Almoravids in Spain from the get go... It also probably makes map research somewhat easier!

    Alrighty, thanks Giorgios.

And, in other news, Poland is done!

I'll put up a map in a little bit of my plan for Hungary, and then I'll be moving on to Anatolia!

Alright here's my draft of Hungary:

I can't decide which city to put in the "Slovakia" region: Nyitra, Pozsony, or Kassa. All three were rather important, but since most mods use either Poszony or Kassa I'm leading towards Nyitra just to be different

I also don't really know what to call that region - Slovakia is a rather modern term for the area, right? Suggestions and corrections are appreciated!

I think our map is quite different. The vanilla map of the Carpathian basin is wrong.

Nagyvárad is the modern name of Várad. You may notice I used other spelling in Hungarian city names because in our mod they will wear their medieval names. This may be surprizing even for the born Magyars.
This is the map from Magyar total war, should be oke. Better also ask them if you are making a historical mod to use their excellent units, family, ect.

Tip for making new factions look what sources are open to use.

@NikeBG - I love it when my geography fails me. Yes, the Balkan Mountains. If Philippopolis was that important, I should definitely include it then. Maybe I'll turn Adrianopole into a PSF and transfer the settlement to Philippopolis.

@Giorgios - Yeah, I have considered it, but for right now I'm just going to stick with 1080. Perhaps in future versions...

PSF? Permanent stone fort? So you will include Permanent forts? Yeah!! Even bigger armies now. However there must be a castle near Constaninople

    @Christonikos - Which castle?

    Hungary is done!

    Pannonian Plain

    Erdely (Transylvania)

I'll start working on Anatolia next, since Giorgios was so kind as to provide me an outline for the area . Keep the comments coming, I really appreciate them!

The mod starts in 1080. Also, if there are any Turkish/Anatolian enthusiasts out here who can help me with Anatolian province names, I would really appreciate it!

If you want to use my map, here are some proposals- a general mix of Byzantine Thematic and "traditional" names for the regional provinces.
