byzantine is the modern wording for these Greek-romans , romaion empire is better one reason because the people of so called "byzantine" still called themselves as the Romaioi or romans.

Hey everybody, just wanted to give a quick update of where I'm at after today's work.
Today was a pretty slow day, I worked on adding/correcting rivers and quadruple checking city placements in Rus' and Poland. Other than that, I did some more research and have a basic outline of what I want to do with Eastern Europe region-wise in the next few days. I'm putting the list up here not only for critique but also for myself since the pile of random papers on my desk with little bits of information on different areas is getting out of control haha. Feel free to take a look and tear apart, that's what I'm here for!
(and I do apologize for the lack of correct diacritic markings, I'm lazy and tired (good combo) but I hope you get the gist)

There are going to be many objections...
Anyway, the region Naupaktos is builded is called Nikopolis? That's another city. And I 'm not sure whether they called the city Naupaktos back then, or Epachtos. Latins, who improved the castle and gave it the final form, called it Lepanto. Here are some infos-->
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nafpaktos
Greek to English translation
The first castle in its present position of Lepanto was at least the time of the Pelasgians. At the same bastion inhabited later by the ancient Greeks. The castle took its present form after the intervention of the Venetians, who occupied the city in 1407 AD Interventions that were made by the Ottomans. This is a great castle, connected directly to the city as a part of it. It consists of five tiers that form four parallel teichopoiies. These are surrounded by walls that begin uphill from the sea on both sides of the hill surrounding the peak. It is one of the best preserved castles in Greece. Within its walls we encounter today many monuments of all historical periods. The castle was never conquered by would-be conquerors and changed whenever the dominant city, it was then capitulation. Part of the castle is the fortress port of Nafpaktos.
BTW: An important point in the course of history is the year 217 BC, when, in the hollow of Lepanto, a peace conference call and unity, and heard the word of gregarious, warned that the storm was coming from the West. Nafpaktos, eventually came under the possession of the Romans. In post-Christian centuries, many barbarians, such as Huns, Slavs, Bulgarians, Saracens, looted the area of Lepanto, leading them to obscurity and financial ruin. In 1210, the city annexed to the dominion of the continent, when it begins its development.
So, the regions' names are acrually the themata's names?
Indeed, I'm using the themata names as region names. Sorry for the typos, I was half-asleep typing that last night and wasn't paying a whole lot of attention, rest assured they'll be fixed in game. And now, a few pictures for everyone. These are city placement maps, the region borders are placeholders for now.

Also, over a thousand views, yay!
Btw, the capital of the theme of Sirmium was the town of Sirmium (modern Sremska Mitrovica). I don't know which town Velegradha exactly is, but it sounds similar to the Moravian Velehrad, which is quite to the north and outside Sirmium's borders.
Okay- for the Byzantine Balkans, I'd replace the Durostolon with Philippopolis, Thebes with Corinth, Naupaktos with Nikopolis, and Scopia with Ohrid. The boundaries of the Byzantine controlled area should lie along the River Danube to the north, curving in the west from approximately northern Albania, through the modern cities of Pristina and Nis, and then back to Belgrade.
I 'm not sure about Nicopolis and Nafpaktos The Capital though of the Despotate of Epirus was Arta.
@NikeBG - Velegradha is a Byzantine name for Belgrade, according to this. I know that Belgrade changed hands several times just prior to and right after 1080 between the Hungarians and the Byzantines so I figured it would be appropriate. If Sirmium was more important, I'll gladly change it.
@Giorgios, Christonikos - Thanks for the suggestions on the cities and the boundaries...finding maps of the Balkans in 1080 was a bit of a challenge. Hope to have some corrections up later.
The map is really shaping up, great work. How many regions are you up to so far? I ask because I'm worried you might run out before you hit the levant.
I survived the Mayan Apocalypse 12/21/12
I redid/finished the rest of the Balkans. I have Split as the settlement in Dalmatia now but it'll probably be changed to Zadar. And I'm still working on those other Byzantine fixes. Comments are welcome!

Think you might be overdoing it with settlements in Dalmatia- two is probably adequate. Otherwise, that looks pretty good. I might consider not having the Adrianople province go so far north, but that's a minor issue.
How many slots do you have left to go?
I'm at uh...134...heh. Maybe some deletions are in order?![]()
