    Default Phalanx animations

    Hi all,

    I know this was a major topic of debate when I was making the Age of Hellas mod. I was just curious as to what was being done about the phalanx in this mod.

    My biggest reccomendation would be Signifer One's animations, they are definitly the best representation of the type of phalanx used in this era. Please, please, PLEASE do NOT use the CA "f" phalanx, this is totally wrong for the era.

    Don't worry our member Dagger spent tens of hours testisng different settings, formations and animations and i can assure you that our hoplite animation will be as accurate as only RTW engine allows.

    hi curtis it was quite time a long time since we talked

    regarding the phalanx, the rtw phalanx will not be used (although there is a minority within the team which i recall insisting the last time that this issue was discussed).....but also we cant use signifers animation in loose formation which is 2 times wrong

    BI offers as the options to modify the formation that units like gothic spearmen (short spear) use or the SW which both can form a better solution than both rtw "f" (hellenistic) phalanx and loose formation used in AoH beta

    as Uranos pointed out, there had been much xperimentation on the formation to find out what is doable and whats not

    Great, thanks for the replies.

    Hopefully you will be able to capture the charge and the moment of impact. I am sure you are well aware that the phalanxes of this day weren't slow, rigid things like in RTW, but they were a tidal wave of metal that charged and literally rammed an enemy formation.

    Have we discussed this before? :p

    Hi. I know that this isn`t the thread for formations, but the animation`s one comes pretty close...

    I was wondering if you will do something about the battle formations concerning the phalanxes.

    I`m asking this because your mod is taking a great shape, but if it doesn`t come with coherent formations, it will stay just in a beautiful map, great skins and models, and that`s just it. All of your grat work and historical fidelity would be incomplete.

    I`m pointing to the fact that the phalanx combat in any RTW version or Mod degenerates very quickly in fragmentary combats and individual fighting between units, rather than two lines closing in the battlefield coherently and without breaking the formation, and clashing like a single block into the enemy line (As it was durnig the 5th century fighting).

    The fighting in RTW aren`t battles. Those are just a sumatory of individual fightings and skirmishings that look like a battle, but aren`t.

    Maybe something like what Darth Vader has done to formations. Before you say anything, yes, I know that the Oblique Order that Darth uses for the phalanx in his mod is out of this mod`s timeframe, but the modification of the formation fighting is the best mod anyone can do for increasing the gameplay.

    (Personally, I thing that the phalanx formation in the picture is too deep, and should be more extended and with a maximum of 20 lines deep, plus repeating the fact that that formation is out of the mod`s timeframe) The idea is to fight a real phalanx battle... not just individual skirmishes that take place in a same battlefield...

    Without it, your mod would be incomplete.

    sorry ive already answered one of these somewhere thought it was here but obviously not lol.

    At the moment we are working on animations etc but we have started thinking about formations to early to say exactly what we will do but we are thinking about it

    btw dagger, who does the progress on formations, has recently showed me an new version of phalanx which look and operate rather good as well

    ...if he has time he may post some pictures himself

    -the elements we implement in the game must be compatible with the mod
    if its to implement work of darths or anybody elses, then he should modify it to match some requirements for heg...
    darth is a very good modder but as far as i know he is rather sort of time unfortunately, however it would be great if he could contribute to heg

    You say that the team is working about it, that`s good enough for me.

    My only concern was if the formations were being adjusted to fulfill hegemonia historical requierements.

    I am sorry I have not contacted you yet (Sarmatian Leader told me you wanted me to help)
    I have really little time to do all these things I do but I manage it it seems.
    The concept of a greek era mod is the most intriguing for me as I respect my origin.
    When you want something from me contact me to help you.
    When your mod is in working form I could fix formations for you.
    If you do not use CA Phalanx formation you will not have the vision of coherent AI phalanx I managed to accomplish with my latest mod.
    But do your best and I will adapt working formations to fit to your creation.
