How awesome is this? After losing a silly hockey game to Boston, a throng of Canadians in Vancouver went nuts and started burning their own city down. That'll show those Americans!

That's not to suggest that I'm happy to see anyone's city burned down, but at least now the Canadians can't claim to be the most well-behaved country in North America.

anyhoo, not really sure how this is political, but it does please me to no end that Vancouver got that upset over the loss. Punk team, punk fans. I'm so glad they lost.

I think a big riot is fairly political.

As a Vancouverite, I wanted to emphasize that the damage was done by a relatively small group of people who came downtown on the night of the final with the intent to smash stuff win or lose. The actual game had nothing to do with it but an excuse to be downtown in a big group and riot, and unfortunately the crowd with them didn't stop them.

Fortunately, however, today(the day after the riot) thousands of people descended on the downtown core to clean it up and repair the damage. These are the real people, not the few drunk 20 year old maniacs(who should all be executed by firing squad).

Of course we can still claim to be the most well behaved country in North America. One riot by a bunch of criminals and anarchists who were intent on causing a riot regardless of the outcome of the game does not mean that Vancouver or the rest of Canada is dangerous. We're certainly safer than you are living in the US. But hey, facts can be inconvenient when you try to be sensationalistic right?

That's not true, there were several instances of regular citizens who tried to stop looting and other crimes including a case where a good Samaritan was attacked while trying to stop people from looting the Bay store downtown.

People showing civic pride and wanting to show that Vancouver can pick itself up after a rather unfortunate incident. Good to see.

Yeah, this is not the answer, I know your probably not serious but jail, community service, probation, peace bonds and criminal records are the most appropriate punishment for these clowns.

Not political. Riots happen after sports, and while they so give reason to ridicule the fanbase who started them, they can happen in any country.

Really? Interesting how that works out, personally I was hoping Boston would win cause I like their players more and truly hated the players for Vancouver.

IMO those guys are douchebags. Not only that I have nothing but fond memories from my two trips to Boston, trips which I should specify did not include sporting events.

So Boston sports fans possible douchebaggery was not a concern for me in supporting the Bruins.

So a slight reading comprehension fail on your part. As for "disgruntled" it was 3:21 am when I made that post, it seemed at the time a rather fair natured post.

Well time for a correction on my part, not two or three cars on fire after all. My news for the event ended at a certain time and they apparently continued burning stuff after I went to bed. So 15 cars in all.

England is probably the country in Europe which have worked the hardest to eradicate it's issues with hooliganism so I think it is unfair to label them as hooligan prone with some notable exceptions. Sweden, Germany and Italy got far bigger issues.
