    Default What faction to choose?

Being new to RTR I was wondering which faction would be the best for me to start out with. I have decided that I am either going to play as one of the barbarian factions or an Eastern one. But I don't know which actual faction to pick. Little help here??

I would say play as Rome.

Rome has been made MUCH harder with only 2 starting cities and a deadly threat to the south with Pyrrhus. It's hard to get Rome going and thus is a challenge. If you want something easier but still fun, play as Egypt or Greeks. For something hard, play Numidia, Bactria, etc.

NO, as far as i know, Roma Mod is for RTR5.4.1, so you need reinstall RTW1.2, then RTR5.4.1, then Roma, then enjoy it!

yes, and in the north, after you take that two rebel cities, you will encounter Gauls, and if you declear war with gaul and take the cities of them, you will encounter stack of stack gauls, i think it is full of challenge.

i am playing Rome with version of RTR6.0 Gold, i am enjoying it.

    just try and enjoy it!

RTFLMAO Haha, Pyrrhus...poor, poor, Pyrrhus. Alas for his deadly threat, when I started my campaign as the Romans, I maid an alliance with the Greeks so I could besiege a nearby city...I started a battle, but when the battle actually came, I held my forces back and let Pyrrhus do my work...long story short: Pyrrhus + 1/2 his army lie dead, having the captured the city...which becomes mine!

Anywho...now that I have that outta my system *snigger,* the Romans can provide a good challenge, mostly because of the fact that in most battles, your horribly weak cavalary will suffer 50+% casualties >_> not pleasant.

Why is it that at least one of the Romans are wusses?

As far as barbarians are concerned, you should try the Germans. Their units and tactics are different from what they used to be. Plus their position is kind of isolated, so you can take your time and strengthen your pop. and economy. If your not the patient type, then you can just expand. You should challenge yourself with this faction and try taking britain early, you'll have alot of fun.

For Eastern I would go Bactria. They're a Hellenic type faction, but with access to native Eastern units. Which makes your unit choices varied and interesting. Again, these guys are far from most factions making them isolated in a way. Try growing and expanding, but don't go to war with Parthia or Seleukia right of the start. Hit the rebels and keep your pikemen close, but your skirmishers closer. LOT's of elephants and horse archers in your vicinity so don't travel without proper counters.

Also, for a Meditteranean faction, try Illyria or Carthage. Both are fun and very challenging as well. Plus they see lot's of action if that's what you really like. RTR made all their factions very deep, so any faction is a good choice. Best of luck to you and have fun!!!

Since Bouis (the creator of Roma mod for 5.41) is no longer active, I took the liberty of applying most of his ideas for a RTR 6.0 version. To not confuse with the Rome Mod for 5.41 version I renamed the mod Imperator.

The link is for the thread from RTR forum, however there an AAR campaign for my mod written by Marcus Cornelius Marcellus. Good story. Click on my sig for the link.

    Cheers.

A good barbarian faction to start out with is the Iberians - not many enemies at the start, just secure your Spanish homelands and then you have a natural border between you and the Gauls. Also this leaves you with many possibilities for where you could next conquer.
Probably the best Eastern faction to start with is the Ptolemaics. The only "easy" rated faction on the choose faction menu, it has a good balance of troops and a good starting position, which should keep you financially stable.
But my personal recommendation is Carthage. It's always fun to see those Romans being slaughtered...
