Default [SOLVED] Removing metallic "artifacts" from model help (aka editing gloss map in GIMP)

    Hi,

I have this strange metallic artifact on a unit. I deleted it from the diffuse and normal, and it did not exist in the gloss_map. It no longer shows up as gold, but it appears white and metallic, as can be seen on the cap:

I looked through all the layers of the three texture files and it does not exist, and yet here it is on the in game model. . .

Any help here would be much appreciated and repped!

    EDIT: SOLVED, see post #11

Can you show us a pic of the diffuse, gloss and normal of the area?

    Okay here they are:

As you may note I am using GIMP DDS plug-in. (It is a 32 bit plug in and I am on a Win7 64 bit OS, could this be an issue?)

Just discovered GIMP DDS plug in is missing a lot of the gloss map. Looked on DXTbmp and it looks dramatically different.

Anyone know of a good plug in for GIMP that works?

I'm quite shure it's the gloss map, but the alpha overlays the area... can you check if there's a white spot in the green channel of the gloss?

Its definitely the gloss map. Unfortunately GIMP DDS plug in 2.0.9 doesn't show the gloss map properly. Am searching now for a better plug in. Any help is good! and thanks so far as well

HEre is the gloss map in the DXTBmp viewer:

SOLVED! GIMP cannot see the YCoCg colors for some reason so one must export the Gloss Map from DXTBmp to GIMP to edit, then import again. It is rather easy with DXTBmp's interface.

    Here is the first go:

I'll clean it up a lot in the future. and thanks for the help. +rep if I can

Perhaps I should write a tutorial on this?
