    Default Villa Corvenii

Villa Corvenii is an old mansion, but it is still in a good shape. Flavius has a lot of work, and therefore the villa may be a bit messy to the eye. His dining room is in the centre of the villa, and it is cleaned every day.

The mansion itself is a long, half-circle stone building with lots of windows and a garden in the "center" of the half-circle. This way the visitors always have the pleasure to enjoy the garden before coming in to enjoy the food and wine.

Flavius favours the wine pressed from Aminean grapes, ranking it as the greatest wine in Rome. The falernian was also one of his favourites, although he honoured no wine more than the wine from his patrician friends's quarters.

    Age: 30

Flavius seeks personal success, but he wants the republic to achieve it with him. Flavius is an emotional person, and he holds honour as a trait every man should have. He is very loyal and trustworthy.
Lately, he has forgot these traits, and deceived himself in his ambition and blindness. He is sorry, mainly for himself, but always eager for little "fun", like war, adventures...
This does not mean that he does not care about these things - yes, he cares very much, especially abour Rome. He would die for Rome, if he'd must.

He is one of the noble Julii family.

Family: Flavius had a father, a former senator. His father faced a crushing defeat in his political career, and fell to self-pity, and began to drink more and more. His father literally collapsed and lived only by Flavius's generous help. When his father turned 52, he was found dead in his bed, dagger sticking from his heart. Flavius is convinced that Lurco was behind this murder, but never managed to have enough proof.

Flavius , being one of the numerous and noble Julii, has family in the senate. Two men which he holds in a high esteem, fully trusting both men. He'd die for them. As he has no family, he is greatly affected by these two Julii. He has regained some of his emotions, although it still is hard for him to feel practically anything else than coldness and irony.

    Background:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Flavius was born in a wealthy Patrician family, his father was a senator and his mother was young and beautiful. Flavius grew spoiled, and he was satisfied with his life. One could say that he was lucky to be born in such a loving family. Yet it was too good to be true..

    Around Flavius's thirteenth birthday...

Flavius's father crashed in the house, seemingly enraged.

    "I have been deceived!"

Flavius and his mother, Aelia, turned to Titus confused, and a little bit amused.

Finally Titus notices the two, and turns towards them, with an odd look in his face. They stared at each other for about ten seconds.
Flavius stood up and left, ears open for any kind of information. His mother watched his back, and when he was out of sight, he turned to his husband and said almost with a nervously calm voice:
"How did the elections go?" She asked, although she knew the answer.

Titus looks to his wife, and his eyes were like tiny fireballs. Aelia looked nervous.

Titus's voice trembled when he answered:

"I...I lost. I spent all our money on the campaigning.

Titus's face was like a glowing piece of coal, and his eyes like tiny fireballs, but yet they were wet like he was crying.

Flavius heard his father's cussing, and he was a bit worried. His mother stayed calm, and told Titus to sit down and she'd take something to eat and drink. Titus sat, although he was still trembling of rage.

The next day everything seemed normal again, except that Flavius's father was not eating with the rest of the family. The next time they saw him he was lying on the street, muttering curses for the man who won the elections instead of him.

Titus spent most of the days drinking, and Flavius's mother died of old age when Flavius was 21. He had no money to hold burials, so Flavius had to cremate his mother's body.

Flavius vow his mother the next months, finding no satisfaction except in his father's total collapse. He felt bad, as he knew that deep inside him he loved his father. But he did not care. More important feelins were pressing on him. Flavius knew the reasons for his father's collapsion. He knew that by losing the elections his father had ruined his family, and that it was the real reason for his father's steep fall. This is why Flavius began to help his father, sometimes out of pity and sometimes to simply sneer and bully his father. Nevertheless, he helped him and he was recovering quickly. When his father had his 52th anniversary, he said to Flavius: 'I will be a senator again, and I will regain our family's honour. I will give you a worthy life to live, and repay everything you have done to me.' But he never managed to complete his promises. He was found dead, his heart pierced by a dagger.

Flavius spent his early years of adulthood in pubs and streets of Rome, falling to whatever fun there was and having a band of loyal followers. At the age of 23, he was arrested for theft. He spent six months in prison, and decided to live honourably from so on.

Flavius had problems findind a suiting job for himself, because he was a patrician. He was spoiled in his childhood, and disliked physical work. He was signed many times for a short period, and he learned that with hard work you could achieve everything you want.

Flavius had gained a bit of reputation as a hard and loyal worker, and later he was contacted by a the Scipian family. He agreed to sign to them as a servant, and was almost instantly confirmed to be a hard worker. He wasn't exceptionally physical, but he worked hard to compensate that. His masters did notice his traits, and Flavius was promoted many times until by his 27th birthday he was Scipio's personal servant. He started to exercise and build his strength, and took lessons from a veteran soldier in the art of war. He became a very good warrior but he should not to be trusted a tactician. Flavius had gained quite a fortune from his work, and wished to take a payoff and buy a nice mansion from somewhere near Rome. After one year he indeed did this, and bought a nice mansion near Rome, just by the river Tiber.

Flavius lived the next three years in Corfinium, satisfied and happy with his life. Once he turned 30 he joined the senate, in order to achieve what his father did not...

    RELATIONS

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Marcus Atrius Merula: Flavius thinks that this man is what he should've been. Flavius now dislikes him, mainly because of his plans against him in Syracuse.

Marcus Sempronius Sophus: Flavius considers this man a very good friend of his. He is sorry for the loss of his son, and is trying to repay at all cost.

Lucius Valerius Poplicola: Flavius honors this man greatly, although he does not particularly like or dislike him.

Spurius Geminius Scaeva: Flavius liked the man at first, but has began to hate him after all the things he has done to Flavius. He would see him dead rather than in the Senate, but his honour - the little he has managed to hold - is blocking the thought.

Faustus Neavious Imperious: Flavius likes the man a lot. He holds this man as his true friend, and would see himself as his ally.

Spurius Horatius Lurco: Flavius hates this man toe to head. Lurco can be considered Flavius's arch-enemy.

Servius Muncius Septimus: Flavius is only confused about the man. He seems to have no goals, he's only proposing useless bills. Flavius doesn't give a thought for him.

Flavius Furius Fusus: The man disgusts Flavius every time he speaks, but is still amusing Flavius with his gambles.

Tiberius Ambrosius Varus: Flavius doesn't know a lot about the man, but that he has invited a great deal of senators in his domus.

Lucius Aurelius Lepidus: Flavius honors this man a bit for his wise words, but doesn't like or dislike him.

Flavius Julius Constantinus: Being Flavius's only relative, Flavius honors and likes this man above everyone else. Both men being in the Senate, Flavius feels this is something very lucky. The noble Julii...

Flavius Julius Celsus: As any Julii, Flavius honours him greatly. He fully trusts him and would support him in whatever gamble he'd do.

"My master Atrius would be honoured if the Praetor would join him for supper tonight if the Praetor is not busy."

*A messenger comes to the door, giving a letter bearing the seal of the Gemini stamped on the parchment. The letter reads:*
Ave Praetor. I am writing to ask you to give me the honour of being you host for an evening. You can call anytime, as if we are both not in the Curia, then I shall be in my domus, as that is where I attend to my business. I request that you do not bring extra guests as it is business I wish to discuss.

    Sincerly,
Your Patrician Kin, S. Geminius Scaeva

Flavius reads the letter. 'Hmh.. you got me curious, Scaeva..'

He turns to the servant nearby:

Spurius, I will visit senator Scaeva. Prepare my horse to be ready in two hours.

Very well. May I ask of the business you have with him?

I don't know yet. Now, go and prepare my horse.

Spurius left swiftly, like every well-trained servant in Rome.

Corvenus is not present. He is at Senator Scaeva's domus. You can go there.

A large group of tall and muscular slaves appear, they all carry the burn mark 'SOPHVS' on their forearms, their front man Kleitos walks up to the front door and nails a letter to it. After a couple of hard bangs the group leaves, without even saying a single word.

    Flavius Julius Corvenus,

I, Marcus Sempronius Sophus, write to you in great sadness. A certain time ago you came to me, in need of money you said, the rich and kind person I am I have lent you the amount you desired. We also agreed you would pay it back. This has not happened. So I send out my loyal servant to collect it, he was violently removed from the mansion of Senator Scaeva.

You have failed to pay off your debt.
You have mistreated my dear servant.
    You have broken your promise.

I ask for one thing, that is my money. I still have trust in you.

Two veteran fully-armed equites rode up to the front of the Villa. They noticed the parchment, and they tear it down and hand it to Spurius.

I'll need to inform Corvenus of this.. you, Marco! , He said to one of the equites.

Go to Scaeva's domus and inform the noble senators of this. He pointed to the piece of paper in his hands.

I'm on my way. The cavalryman rode away, bearing the piece of paper.

A man on horseback approaches the villa, he dismounts and ties up his horse near the gate. A confident figure, he was not typical of Romans. Bearing an ivory-hilted Kopis, he approached the door

Please inform your master, slave, that Flavius Julius Constantinus has arrived..i shall wait outside, as the day is much too nice to pass on

    Flavius arrived to greet Constantinus.

Salve senator, welcome to my Villa.

He leads his guest to his garden. When you enter it you notice that the sun is warming the whole place up, but still it is lightly chilly. Wine was brought in silver goblets.

I see that you are one of the noble Julii. Let me introduce myself: Flavius Julius Corvenus. I have invited you here to discuss of a possible alliance.

He sipped from his goblet, smilingly, and observed the man. 'He bears a sword, and looks like a Greek. Not a typical roman, nay'

    Constantinus eyed the man curiously

An alliance you say? That is a bold thing to bring up so soon..what makes you believe that i shall support you without even have spoken to you until now?

He paused to sip his wine, glancing around investigating the surroundings

    However...i am open to persuasion...

He looked at the man, clearly a Julii though his appearance was of a Greek.

You, my friend, have been adopted to our noble family if i remember correctly. It does not still stop me from trying to help you. But nay, i do not ask you to accept. Let us discuss about our views before we say anything else.

Flavius said smilingly, trying to reach a light and warm tone.

I am indeed a Julii, as am i a Roman. I have fought and bled in many battles against all sorts of enemies. But i am no warmonger like the many in the Senate and on the streets. I value diplomacy. After all, the mind is as important to the swordsman as the blade which he carries. Much can be learned, most of all from enemies. In time, the Senate will see this. My brother was known for his radical and often headstrong ways. That was not his flaws...His ambition and desire were admirable...his failure to see the deciet and evil of politics and a simple speech was his downfall....i shall not make the same mistake. Let the Senate brand me a..barbaroi..I care not...those of sound mind and those who listen would know that it is not a flaw. Alexander himself embraced many things from his Persian nemesis..

Constantinus trailed off with that last statement in deep thought, looking deeply at the hilt of his sword, almost in memory of something

What of you Corvenus? Will you brand me a barbarian? would you cast me out of the house of the Julii? label me nothing more than foreign blood that somehow convinced my brother and father through deciet and evil magic to adopt me? Or will you lend me your support? You knew my brother Corvenus, did you not? You would know that he understood the meaning of gratitude...knew it well..

Flavius felt heavy, he had indeed knows his brother and admired his traits..

Nay, Constantinus. I would help you the best i can, he said with a smile,

But for your brother. He said with a darker tone, I did know him. At the time, i was the governor of Spain. It was a heavy moment for me.. to lose the only friend i had at the present. These patricians now.. they are no true friends. They all seek power and fame. Yet, i'm all the time trying to explore their minds and perhaps find a good trait in them.

He had obviously spoken too much, but he did not care, this man was part of his family.

But you Constantinus, you are of the Julii. I see some of the same traits of his in you. We both have great sorrow for him. But there are some things we should not speak of. Alas! did it have to happen.

He did what he thought was just. It is of no consequence now. I shall bide my time...i assure you, you will see this figure seated in the curia as Consul.

Constantinus did not care how blunt his comment was...ambition..most senators had it...but few had the guts to say it. He took some wine, and drank heavily..something inherited from his brother no doubt
