    Default Help regarding battle tactics

So I feel like a complete noob for asking this, but I'm trying to actually fight more battles in the game instead of doing too many auto-resolves. Well I'm having a problem. When I have my units in a nice formation, and I want them to advance to meet the enemy, I do not know how to make them advance in a straight line, WHILE keeping formation. For example:

------------ <-- My army lined up to kill! When I select all of them and right click a spot in front of the army so that they advance, they do this:

/ / / / / / / / <-- They start to turn to one side, so that instead of a straight line, they go in a diagonal line when they reach the destination.

As you can imagine, this is not good for my tactics, so is there a button to press when you move them forward to make them go STRAIGHT forward instead of in a diagonal? This is all from right clicking with the mouse when I move them forward. It seems if I hold the right mouse button down and try, then they lose their formation completely and I'm screwed.

Please let me know if this makes sense and you know what I'm getting at.

I know exactly what you mean! Unfortunately, the poor sport who has posted above me feels no sentiment towards our problems It appears as though he has misunderstood what you said.

What Imperator is trying to say, in fact I have the same problem, lets say your legions are arranged in a checkerboard pattern and you have reserves behind them, and you wish to advance your line STRAIGHT at the enemy. Well, when you group them all and hit a location directly in front of them, they go all diagonal and begin to form a single line, instead of advancing in formation.

I have found that the only solution to this problem is to advance line by line unfortunately...

I felt like this years ago and in most cases it can be frustating. Though when you get it, it is so much easier. First put all the units you want it the formation in a group, then select the group and right click+drag where you want them to go and arrows should appear where they are going to let go and they will move in formation. Simple and easy to learn

Audacia and AotxLoGiX, thank you!! I finally got it to work this evening exactly how I wanted it. The group them all together and right click + drag method is what I'm using for this type of maneuver. Thanks and repped!

You could also hold alt+right click to make your units retain their formation.

well there's even no need for all that i mean the group thing works but that how i get the most problems The trick is not to micromanage as long as you don't click to close to your formation they won't do cray stuff you can just left click and drag; then just click to where you need them to go and they will stay in the respective position you gave them at the start
