Okay, so basically, I've deleted files on my HD which I don't want anymore, nor do I want anyone else to find them.
This firstly is not a thread asking to try and evade 'legality' but simply to ask how would I guarantee that a file that I wanted to be gone, is gone and untraceable?
So, my first step was to delete the file (obviously),
> Deleted, then deleted from Re-cycle bin.
> Ran de-frag to re-order all information around and hope that bits and bytes of the deleted file were also moved around.
> Ran 'No File Recovery' to fill all magnetic memory with random 1's and 0's to further increase difficulty of retrieving file.
> Ran CCCleaner, just to make sure,
> De-fragged hard-drive again.
Now I'm a noob when it comes to understanding exactly what I did there, however I hope that I've done enough to make certain files irretrievable, and without the need of completely Nuking my hard-drive and having to suffer through the long process of re-installing my OS.
Thoughts/suggestions to help me increase my HD security?
Cheers!![]()
