    Default Patriot act renewed

Surprised that nobody started a topic on this... it happened about a week ago.

I remember a while back in a post about the ports deal on how they were making that such a big issue to cloud what congress was really doing, well this is it. They passed the patriot act behind everyones eyes and only given a small soundbite on TV news to be overshadowed by the port deal.

Congress has done thing like this many times in the past so its of no surprise. In the end with everyone acting in the popular way for the ports deal congress will not suffer from it as well, so its a win-win situation for them.

So why was this hardly reported, why did the news never talk about it? The ONLY thing that i've seen on it was the day it was passed it was the headline of a few news sites, such as CNN. Also one small bite on CNN as well. The fact is, they are talking about a inconsequential port deal that will make no different in the form of allready non-existing security.

edit: The reason I post this now is that I was waiting for someone else to make a topic. I'm not very good at starting a discussion, imo, but I decided I had to as nobody else would bring it up.

btw I dont think bush is "doing this on purpose" or some "fascist conspiracy theory". I think they wanted to renewed and did this on purpose just so congress could be reelected without trouble, a political tactic.

well what really is there to say?

if people still haven't read the legislation for themselves, or if they have and they don't seem to care, what is there to do?

clearly the american people seem to be going along with the destruction of our constitution. you can lead a horse to water but you can't make em drink

Excuse me for my ignorance, but what exactly does the Patriot Act say?

Personally, I dont see the patriot act as a big deal in the way of breaching U.S. citizens privacy. I think the Bush illegal wiretapping thing was a bigger deal....and I think Mike said it nicely, if it is renewed yet again and half the democrats vote to pass it like last time, then who can you really blame?

I can see how people originally didnt read it...I mean on the one hand, these are congressmen their job is to read longwinded boring documents for the good of the country. Last time most people didnt read it and still voted to pass it, is that not the perfect picture of American laziness, ignorance and unfounded arrogance at the very top levels of our government? I think so.

But again, I dont blame them, look through the document...its a ***** to read.

edit-I mean look at this thing

"SEC. 102. SENSE OF CONGRESS CONDEMNING DISCRIMINATION AGAINST ARAB AND MUSLIM AMERICANS.
    (a) FINDINGS- Congress makes the following findings:
    (1) Arab Americans, Muslim Americans, and Americans from South Asia play a vital role in our Nation and are entitled to nothing less than the full rights of every American.
    (2) The acts of violence that have been taken against Arab and Muslim Americans since the September 11, 2001, attacks against the United States should be and are condemned by all Americans who value freedom.
    (3) The concept of individual responsibility for wrongdoing is sacrosanct in American society, and applies equally to all religious, racial, and ethnic groups.
    (4) When American citizens commit acts of violence against those who are, or are perceived to be, of Arab or Muslim descent, they should be punished to the full extent of the law.
    (5) Muslim Americans have become so fearful of harassment that many Muslim women are changing the way they dress to avoid becoming targets.
    (6) Many Arab Americans and Muslim Americans have acted heroically during the attacks on the United States, including Mohammed Salman Hamdani, a 23-year-old New Yorker of Pakistani descent, who is believed to have gone to the World Trade Center to offer rescue assistance and is now missing. "

The Patriot Act deals with everything from protecting the northern border to ensuring muslim americans arents discriminated against, to talking about wire tapping. It really is a confusing stew of unrelated issues all mixed into one act.

The irony is for such an important thing, it's difficult to find any brief summary of it.

ALL of them. we need to get past this elementary democrat and republican debate and start looking at things constitutionally. does this centralize more power, or is it constitutional? not, is my party for this?

Heh...easier said than done. The Democrats are the ones who are supposed to offer opposition to Republican power....when the democrats proposed the healthcare plan the republicans TORE IT UP. When Clinton was caught getting head? Republicans TORE it up. I want the democrats to tear something up for once. But of course not...the republicans lead and the democrats follow like weak sheep...*sigh*...

may be I am quite ignorant in this matter, someone could help me out.
I understand, by history, why the Russian inference are there.
But why are the Americans there? Armenia and Georgia is not american neighbourhood.
Americans should take care of the jobless civilians in New York before take care of the far-off back door of Russia.
