    Default Villa Basiliscii

This is the villa of patrician family Basiliscii. Quite unknown, this family has only recently risen to this status. The late father of Tiberius - Marcus Basiliscus, was an equestrian who, with the honour shown on the battlefield gained the favour of his legate and his soldiers. Although he never became a legate himself, his son received patronage of the legate, and so education as a patrician's son would.

Tiberius was born 30 years ago, on a small estate near Asculum. His family were merchants - and quite rich as well. Unfortunately, their estate had been devastated by Pyrrhus' soldiers, and the family had to move to Rome to join Tiberius, who only recently finished his term in the army. With the money they salvaged, this villa was built. It cost quite a bit, but Tiberius knows how to deal with money. Basiliscii have again recovered and now seek prosperity in the senate.

They call him Atellus, because of his darker skin and black hair. He is well educated, though he never likes to engage in long debates. He is a man of actions and always tries to do as much as possible to benefit his family. Since he is a son of a merchant, he has a good sense on financial things. His greatest strength is also his greatest weakness. He is a novus huomo - and the noblemen know it. Because he would do anything to raise his family even further, he is not immune to bribery ... A fact that his father still tries to save him from - even now, when he is practically on his death bed, aged 59!

Tiberius is loyal to the Valerii family, without whom he would never become a patrician.
He has only little experience in actual combat ... dealing with some hill tribes in the heart of Italy as a centurion. He doesn't resent fighting, but he doesn't enjoy it either.
As a merchant, he would most gladly visit the ports of Carthage and Athens. He strives for an opportunity to go there one day.

As you enter the courtyard, a slave approaches you. He asks about the reason of your visit ...
