Default Stainless Steel: How to give a unit a new weapon

So in Stainless Steel 6.4 I want to give the Menaultoi pikemen a halberd instead of the short pikes they currently use. How do I go about this because I've tried looking through the forums but haven't seen any threads about giving weapons to units or at least maybe I haven't tried hard enough.

you have to change models and textures using to this unit. Use Mesh_2_Ms3d and Milkshape 3d.
    1. check in modeldb what of models unit uses
    2. transform *.mesh files to Ms3d format using Mesh_2_Ms3d
    3. erase short pike using Milkshape 3d and save files.
    4. find in modeldb any unit using kind of weapon you need
    5. transform *.mesh files to Ms3d format using Mesh_2_Ms3d
    6. extract weapon you need using Milkshape 3d and save file.
    7. merge units models with weapon model using Mesh_2_Ms3d
    8. transform *.Ms3d files to *.mesh format using Mesh_2_Ms3d
    9. copy new models to the proper folder
    10. add propers entries in your modeldb

Okay for some reason on step 5, when I try to load the mesh the message ''Non-standard file - Not Processed'' comes up. Do I not have the most up to date version of Mesh_2_Ms3d? I have 1.8

You tried to open the wrong file. Check the name of model files in your modeldb and open proper files.
