Well.... I got a 2,000 dollar computer recently with these specs. It runs Shogun 2 with ALL graphics on maximum at 1900 x 1200 resolution at over 50 FPS on battles with roughly 10,000 people zoomed in.

    Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-2600K 3.40 GHz 8M Intel Smart Cache LGA1155
RAM: 8GB (4GBx2) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory Module (Kingston Hyper X)
Video Card: EVGA Superclocked NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB 16X PCIe Video Card
PSU: 800 Watts - XtremeGear Gaming Power Supply - Quad SLI Ready
    HDD: 750GB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD

So best would be a GTX 560 or above with an i7 (minimum 3.0 GHZ or above I would say). I am running my i7 at stock speed (3.4 ghz) currently. No need to overclock yet. It also runs Crysis 2 on all max at roughly the same frames.

    Yeah need a budget first.

I'd recommend a Sandy Bridge i5 (You don't need i7 unless you're doing rendering and encoding) and a HD6950 or GTX560 for GPU

2500k is an i5. Yeah, it's quite good.

But yeah you don't actually need that great of specs for good settings, really. Like others have said, it depends on your budget.

i5 2500K should do fine as your processor, and video card pretty much depending on your preference. HD 6950 2gb is priced okay, and can be easily (no need to be really good with computers) unlocked into 6970 which increases the performance - though it will also generate more heat and noise. GTX 560 TI is a good choice too, they tend to be sold already overclocked meaning that they usually reach the level of HD 6950, and it seems to be more silent. 4-8 GBs of DDR3 ram, I think 4 should be fine. Of course, you'll need a motherboard, some P67 (P67 Pro3 B3 for example). I've no idea how much HDD space you need, so just get one with enough . You also might want an PSU other than the one that comes with the case, 500-600 watts should do the job, but I've little idea which developer produces most reliable PSUs. Fractal Design Define R3 should be a good case.

    TL;DR:
    Core i5 2500K 3,3ghz
    GTX 560 TI/HD 6950
    4 GB DDR3 1333mhz
    P67 Pro3 B3
    HDD of your choice
    Fractal Design Define R3
    Dvd-drive of your choice

I'm not sure about US prices, though I don't even know if you live in US, EU or somewhere else, so you should see to it yourself That should go under 1000€ in any case.

This is 980 dollars in US and in Europe approximately 900 Euro
that heat sink is way overkill IMHO. I use a 30.00 heatsink, and my 2500k is at 4.3 GHz. Also why 4 gig ram for 80 when you can get 8 gigs at 70.00?

I always attach great importance good cooling
Also i think 4gb ram is absolutely enought, but this is only my personal opinion

get this RAM, part number N82E16820231445
get this HDD, part number N82E16822152185

i have the same cooler as you, dont use the splitter that comes with it, it will hurt the performance.

He could also get a cheap AM3+ board with a previous generation AM3 processor, and perhaps have enough left over to get a better card. However, dude can't be helped until he provides a budget.

am3+ boards right now seem flakly from all the reviews, and if your like me and keep the same mobo and processor for 4 years, then no need to go am3+. plus the 2500k ocd trounces anything amd has right now.

You're talking about the MSI 990 AM3+, which has a few issues, but the other AM3+ boards have been receiving pretty good reviews. A bit expensive though, I'd recommend he get a revision instead.

And four years? Whew. You have some good patience. I'd go crazy.

BTW, if I had to get a top-o-the-line beast right now, it'd definitely be Sandy. No doubt about it.

not good patience, no money, i had to scrape enough cash to replace my burning 9800 gtx+ with a 560ti SOC. hoping zambezi will not disappoint, but with delays and no benchmarks, i think bulldozer is dead man walking.

Seriously don't waste your money on an i7 if you are a gamer. Its better to waste money on a graphic card. i5-2500k is currently the best processor out there. You can easily clock the i5-2500k up to 4.3 with normal air cooling.
