Default Taxes, how I loathe thee...

So, my taxes KEEP GOING DOWN! Is this due to armies, rulers, faction leaders, peasants, squalor?

Often times corruption can begin to develop amongst your generals if you leave them sitting in city splendor. Kick them out of the towns and make them work for their living.

Also, when good governors with high management and such die and are replaced by less experienced ones, a town's income may decrease.

The quality of the farm season also causes your income to sway.

I hope this is what you are asking about?

You must build new roads, markets, etc.
Or you can leave the settlement. And when they are revolting, you must capture it again.

Are your taxes going down, or just your income? Income goes down for all of the above pretty much. Taxes go down from corruption, as said above

either a)the population is increasing in the city so the city is taking more and more expenses from the army expenses....so the income is going down. b) there is a lot of corruption in the city, change the governor.

And I find out the poor don't pay the tax, so the best thing is extermine the population.

Only one or two of your cities should be losing money. If more are, you will have trouble sustaining a steady income. As long as you're making in the 4000-10,000 (or more) each turn, you'll be fine. If you make less, you need to go through an economic overhaul.

Ah, I make that quite easily. Thanks!

Another question - I make a few units, while my city is happy. I take them out, they become very unhappy, even though they have only gone back to the amount of soldiers that they did before I made more. Why?

I don't know, but the only thing I know is the garrison bonus is depended on number of soldiers, not the quality of soldier. So it means even peasants are more useful than legionnaire when you want to keep troops in city for maintaining the happiness.

Two reasons (assuming no spies, etc.); but they both boil down to one thing: Population growth.

1.) Your garrison gives a maximum of 80 points PO bonus. You achieve this maximum bonus by having a garrison that equals about 12% of population. Let's say you had 720 troops in a town of 6000. That is 12% garrison, which should get you about 80 points PO bonus. If nothing changes except population, then when the POP hits 9000, the same garrison is now only 8% of POP and the garrison bonus is only about 55 PO.

2.) For that same town/city: When it went from 6000 to 9000, it incurred 10 PO penalty for every 3000 POP = 10 extra PO penalty.

So, for this example, a town going from 6K to 9K POP will lose 25 PO due to loss of garrison effectiveness, plus lose 10 PO due to squalor = 35 point PO penalty just for sitting around doing nothing. You will observe this even if you don't move your troops out of town.

    Hope that helps.
