Default Newcomers/oldtimers what to do thread.

So first, hi and welcome to all the new guys, glad to have you here to help us.

This thread is mostly here to coordinate the influx of new testers that will come, and help everyone knows what to do first, and then what to test.

    1. First and foremost, you'll need an svn account to download the beta. If you were not providing one when enlisted, ask for it since it is the only way to access the beta.
For more information about what svn is and how to set it up, have a look at this thread.
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=288544

    2. Now that RS is up and running, here is what is needed to be tested currently:
-Roman traits (play a Roman campaign)
    -Swap factions

Please indicate in this thread what you'll test, so we can make sure everything is tested.
I/we'll try to update this post if something is added. (dvk/tone, if I missed something, please say so)

    3. I've got an error, what do I need to do?
First, try to document it with as many details as you can, screenshots are really appreciated.
Then, depending on what it is, post it in one of the thread existing, or create a new one if nothing fits.

    4. I've got suggestions, comments, ideas, ...
Please post them, everyone will be able to discuss them, and it might become a new feature.
New traits/ancillaries with descriptions are always welcome; and we're currently searching for some swap factions artwork, so if you find some, post them here.
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=456856

Remember, you're here to test, and not to play, so you might have to replay a campaign more than a few times.
Though it is a bit outdated, you might want to see this thread.

You can do both if you manage, it's just to know who is doing what.

Need anything in particular tested? I haven't been around much lately, but I've got some spare time on my hands for the next few weeks. I'll update SVN tonight.

What we need is some idea from battles as Romans as to how frequently the various military decorations are coming up:

    Armillae
    Patellae
    Torques
    Phalerae
    Vexillum
    Hasta Pura
    Corona Aurea
    Corona Vallaris
    Corona Muralis
    Corona Civica
    Corona Navalis
    Corona Obsidionalis
    Spolia Opima
    Corona Triumphalis
    Ornamenta Triumphalia

At the moment, Romans are set to progress really quickly through the ranks in order to monitor some of the stuff, so if you can post frequently whenever you get a military decoration that'd be good.

Also there's a load of tracking traits that are showing at the moment that will eventually be hidden so don't worry about these too much.

Ok, no problem Tone. I'll start a Roman campaign tonight and probably post the decoration and year when I get them. I'll refrain from screenshots unless you guys would prefer that.

540 - 1x Hasta Pura, 3x Vexillum - Regular victories, battles mostly in my favor, some were close to even.
541 - Scipio receives Corona Muralis, Hasta Purae II, Vexillae II - Got all 3 for taking back one of the Roman rebel cities (in the toe, can't recall the name atm), regular victory, battle heavily in my favor.

EDIT: Is there somewhere I can view all the progressions for this system? It seems complicated.

Oh yes can you also tell under what conditions you won those?....heroic victory, battle odds, etc

Oh and can you reupdate SVN? I've just restored some of the conditions required to get decorations......by the way, the general has to fight and kill some enemy in order to gain the decorations.

The other thing to note is that some the requirements for being post Marian in order to get some of the positions (like the whole Equestrian career thing) is commented out at the moment. The whole of that career system has been significantly restructured.

You also getting warning of senatorial elections....your patricians and equestrians will only reach legatus or legatus legionis if they have progressed through the civilian career as well.

I've realised that there are a few things that need fixing in the traits section before it's worth your while carrying on. It shouldn't trash your campaign as the lines are kept the same, but worthwhile updating SVN.

All right, I'll update it before I play later tonight. Not sure if you saw my edit, but is there somewhere I can view the progression tree for these traits at or is it a work-in-progress situation?

Check the SVN update page around page 18....you'll see a load of stuff there including this (forget the stuff about military decorations required....although it does speed up the process, and the evocatus careers aren't going to be there either):

The plan is for this to be purely post-Marian but it's in there for testing purposes without the post Marian condition. All equestrians will start off their military career as Praefectus Cohortis...there are two cross overs possible - one for Plebeians to become Equestrians and one for Equestrians to be Adlected into the Senate.

Have a read of the pages around there to see where we've gone with it (and the regional governors).

I guess I know the answer to this but the instructions are misleading a little bit. "1) You need a clean copy of RTW patched to 1.5 (copy and paste the whole RTW folder from your vanilla installation and rename it something like RS2 Beta)" It never mentions BI/Alex installs but step 2 says: "... leave RomeTW.exe, RomeTW-BI.exe, mss32.dll (and gamespy.ico, icon.ico, GameSpy Arcade if you have them)" - which assumes BI is installed. So I guess step 1 is install a clean RTW to BI/Alex?

My base is a 1.6 BI which I assume is the one I need to use? I'm starting the tortoise download based on that supposition.

    Yes, 1.6 BI is good.

Did you actually install the Tortise SVN program, because it WILL be in the menu if installed.

Whilst tortoise is doing it's thing, where should I start? is there a faction that needs testing or are you after Roman Traits? Do we need to start from the beginning with a battle with Hannibal as Rome or can that be bypassed (I'm guessing that has been thoroughly tested by now). I saw the notes about checking graphics, traits gained etc, just want an idea where to focus at the start.

Roman traits and Roman military decorations would be the ideal thing just at the moment. I'm sure the thresholds and so on aren't going to be correct, but initially we need an idea of what's not right and what feels good.....so let us know which decorations your characters are getting and when (and also if they're not getting a decoration if you think they should)....by the way the general has to see some action in order to get anything (i.e. kills some enemy)
