Default Installing DLV to a Win7 machine with 1.5 patch M2TW Kingdoms GOLD (UK English edition)

I've made the jump from easy ol' XP to the new Win7 professional with a strudy PC tower and look forward to getting back into the swing of things. However, I find the myriad of directions for installing quite baffling. Can anyone direct me to a clear, straightforward link to this process. Should I put it all in Program Files or Program Files (X86) or use XP mode (which I'm still figuring out).

Feel quite lost at sea with this new operating system.

    Thank you gang!

Just look up the directions on installing any programs or mods or wathavyou on vista. Vista install is same as Win7. But yes put everything in PrgramFiles not x86

make a seperate folder call it games so....C:/games

and install any and all games made pre-vista (aka mtw2) in there.

Then turn off UAC (make sure you reboot to actually turn it off).

then when you install right click the .exe installer file and click run as administrator

works with all pre-UAC games, but a key is installing outside program files for mods to work.

hope that clears up a bit.

Thank you XIIICaesar and Losthief, I shall start the install following your good pointers. Ta!

update: Installing into a new folder called C:/M2TW. The only game I play :o)
Have managed to turn off pesky UAC. Looking good so far chaps - I feel empowered!

Hi Tokus, the new PC sounds pretty awesome, congrats

Right click the M2TW folder, properties, security, advanced, owner, edit, select yourself, tick 'Replace owner on subcontainers and objects', apply, wait for it to process, done.

That's how you tell Window 7 that you own everything in that folder and so it is not allowed to protect it from you at all.

I wonder if there's an easier way... But at least there is a way

Thank you Taiji - I've just done your ownership pointers. Learning about this new win7 all the time.

The new 'Monster' PC has a solid state C drive - boots up in a flash. A huge black Xigmatec Asgard tower. There's a mighty 16GB of memory and the top Zotac Nvidia card. After years of sluggish frame rates I just snapped and reached for my wallet!

    :o)

I loaded in the first disc and M2TW was installed. It plays too! However, the installing didn't request the second disc with which to install the Kingdoms campaigns - dunno if these are needed. It also refused the 1.5 patch saying that Gold was already up to this. Okay I believe it.

Anyhoo - then installed DLV 6.0 in the new M2TW folder (out side the program or program x86 folders) and then onto installing DLV6.2 - but when I try to run the game I only get the 6.0 icon on the desktop and no sign of the 6.2 one.

Treat me as stupid. Spend all morning looking at various tech' forums. My head feels like mince. Anyone know why it does not want the second kingdoms gold disc for the campaigns or why DLV 6.2 appears to install but not put an icon up.

This is SO different from safe and trusty XP!

    Help!

Yeah, I think the 6.2 installer doesn't change the desktop icon, so it still reads 6.0.

Strange that the second disk wasn't used but then I don't have gold and maybe it works that way somehow. I always install the campaigns to be able to look at examples of coding found in them.

Cheers Taiji - I seem to be making headway. The basic M2TW desktop icon works and runs the game, however, the DLV6.0 icon flashes a black Dos box which winks out in a micro second. I've gone into the mods/dlv_ext folder but cannot find anything that stands as a launcher.

    Uninstalling and trying again...

Note: I have searched and searched trying to find a single clear guide for installing M2TW Gold. Seeing that M2TW Gold is the standard game disc now and Win7 the standard PC, I'd have thought there'd be a clear concise no fuss install guide somewhere on the net. I'm semi-PC literate but this new win7 just seems to piss on me and laugh at my attempts to have a great weekend of play. Installing on the XP was SO straightforward - this new Win7 just drives in to tears.

    Please advise!

Taiji's exempt from helping me - he's RL busy and done loads already!

did you click yes on steam for gold? if so it probably downloaded the install files most likely....otherwise dunno. But hmmm....did you run the dlv install as admin. So right click the install .exe or .bat or whatever it is, and click run as administrator...that allows it to write the files it needs to.

This sounds like you didn't install DLV in the same folder as M2TW. It's an easy mistake to make on win7.

    Hi Losthief,

It is not from Steam. My Kingdoms gold is a brand new two disc set with orginal box and security number. The PC is a brand new pro built intregal unit by a steady tech guy.

I have shut down the UAC already and made sure the C:/games folder has been sorted the way Taiji said - properties, security, advanced, owner, edit, select yourself, tick 'Replace owner on subcontainers and objects', apply, wait for it to process, done. I'll try installing afresh with that right click on every turn - run as administrator, maybe that's it.

Thank you for taking the time to help a new W7 noob! :o)

UPDATE: Irishron is helping me on the tech part of the M2TW forum. Rep him with great rep!

    Well, I give up.

Done everything suggested. Installed as administrator, switched of UAC beforehand, put it all in a neat folder in my C drive outside of the program or program x86 folders. Base M2TW runs okay - fine. However, installing DLV 6.0 seems to go okay but there's no launch application I can find in the folder structure to run it. Then when I try to install DLV 6.2 it unpacks and that's it - doesn't attempt to install itself. Total pish.

Oh well, looks like no DLV anymore for Tokus - I have read every link, followed every instruction and are just wasting my weekend getting a worse headache. I cannot find any info how to install M2TW Kingdoms gold (the current avaialble in the shops editon) upon the current machine (Win7) clearly anywhere.

Sorry, but it's been real fun, can't join you all in the mod fun -I have been defeated.

If you want to run DLV when you only have M2tw installed just get a kingdoms crack to play without the disk, I don't think you even need the kingdoms install to play DLV 6.2. This is what I do anyway since my DVD drive is caput and I cant be arsed replacing it.

I cannot offer any ideas on how to install kingdoms from gold though.

My discs are brand new, just picked up M2TW Kingdoms Gold and installed no probs on my XPS power XP laptop all fresh. But, hit a solid wall and stumble when trying to negotiate the headache of getting even the basc Kingdoms discs to both install on the new Win7 tower machine i've just purchased. It does the first disc one no problem and I can even play the vanilla game all right but it does not prompt for the second disc at all. And as for installing mods - they appear to install but then when I click the mods' icon on the desktop it exclaims 'Where's the kingdoms disc'. This is the same whther I install everything again and try DLV or TATW.

    Bloody CA/Sega fukwits!

I wouldn't touch virtual anything when I can have the real thing, it just complicates matters. The game works fine in Windows 7. I've tried adding you to my skype so I can help you get it sorted. Rest assured we will get everything working, Tokus

Thank you most revered Taiji, I do not stand alone!

The guys on the tech forum have given good guidelines... Irishron has been a great help as well as Polecat who's posted that the M2TW Kingdoms Gold edition comes with a total of seven (If he remembers right) installers. He's got some good pointer to follow too. I'm sure I'll nail this. Once I think I can get it installing okay I'll be able to achieve full DLV!

I'm fixing some supper then back to it. I have succeeded in installing the very fine RTW mod Roma Surrectum II on my new beast machine. It runs! I do believe it is the early installing of M2TW Kingdoms gold that is the prob.

With all your help I'll become a Win7 installing problem answering champ yet!

2 questions/ideas: did you install the gold patch for 1.5? even if it says you have it reinstall the gold one for your area (us, uk, europe etc etc) use europe if you not listed on any of those listed. Cause if the mod was made for 1.5/kingdoms and kingdoms isn't working right the mod won't either .

and 2) i think all you really need is kingdoms.exe files. So if you need to install mtw2 from your disk on another system on in the virtual things above, and just steal the kingdoms.exe out of it, and put that in your install manually, should allow you to run kingdoms mods.

    does kingdoms campaigns run correctly?

    i. It wouldn't accept the patch, saying it was already there. I used correct UK Kingdoms gold patch. The whole process I am used to - having installed M2TW Kingdoms Gold with the regional UK 1.5 patch many many itmes upon my XP games laptop. This is simply a Win7 different platform problemo.

ii. Taiji and I spent a great deal of time on Saturday trying to do something like this - alas to no avail.

...We have however, fresh plans which we think will sort it. See next thread... Thank you Losthief!
