Default How often do you change your laptop?

This month it's been 3 years since I bought my laptop. I'm wondering should I buy a new one? I want to play newer games such as Napoleon or Shogun 2 TW, as well as other genre new games.
    My laptop:
    Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pa 2548
    AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-64 2.2 GHz
    2048MB RAM
    160GB HDD
    NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M G 128MB
You will probably say if I really feel like I need a new one, then I should buy it, but the problem is I don't really know I've lived up until now with my laptop and maybe I could keep it longer? What about your laptops?

For a laptop to be decent for gaming you have to spend loads of extra cash over an equivalent desktop.

I thought desktops are already out fashionated for a long time! I think I'm gonna make another poll.

They're out of fashion for the general public, Me & my brother use desktop computers while my mum &
my sisters use laptops (along with my other brother who has a laptop that can barely play STW2 on barely
    medium graphics)

if your a gamer and smart you have a desktop
if your a gamer and rich you have an extreme laptop
if your a gamer who wants the most performance possible for the money you spend you have a custom built desktop lol

laptops were useful when i was in college, but always felt tied to a power outlet, so not really mobile,
laptops are easily stolen were as my 70lbs tower not so much

that and multi monitor productivity is just easier to setup maintain and use with a desktop and i love my multiple monitors

I don't buy laptops. If I ever need one i'll buy a cheap netbook and probably not replace it unless it died on me or the best part of a decade passed.

I do tend to build a new desktop every 3 years or so.

I only use a laptop for work stuff, so I only replace it if something goes terribly wrong.

I have 1 netbook, 1 laptop, and 6 desktops... The laptop just doesn't get much use. Mainly I boot it up so I can IM and look stuff up while gaming it seems

You could buy a decent desktop and a cheaper laptop both for the price of a mediocre laptop, that way you have portability when you need it and a great gaming experience as well at home. The Acer Aspire 5253-BZ60 is an excellent 15.6" laptop with the AMD Fusion E-350 APU, I get about 4 hours casual use and 2 hours while watching full screen videos on Hulu or whatnot. It only costs $330 which is what you'd pay for a little netbook with only a starter edition of windows.

I need a laptop for school. And it's nice to have a laptop to browse the internet with when I'm playing games on my desktop.

As this is my first laptop (bought nine months ago), I don't really have anything to base my judgement on, but I'm planning to keep my current one for another three years at least. Since I'll be moving around quite a bit over the next few years (studying and all that) it wouldn't make sense for me to get myself a desktop. In future, with money from a PhD studenship, I might buy myself a laptop devoted to gaming.

I currently have a MacBookPro, with a 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM which is more than adequate considering I didn't buy it as a gaming rig (my graphics card, an NVIDIA GeForce 320M, isn't exactly wonderful). I'm mainly using it to run labview, sound-processing software and statistics software (for my thesis and for my future research interests) which fare better on a Mac OS because they were developed for it.
Please note that I will be off to British Columbia for research purposes between the 14th July and 12th September - as such, I will not be able to log on.

Sincerely I get a new one when things go south.

One lasted me for 3 years (the screen broke, swapped it and its running again, its now 5 years old)

The other will last me 3 years, but the hinge is already broken, but I want something with the power saving features of the tri gate transistors, and the developments of the ivy bridge chipset, including more releases of the thunderbolt tech, so I will be damned if I can get it to last another year

I dont see myself going to desktops again, I can game. Its not my life to game, its my life to program, and for that I pay for a premium, the last 2 laptops that I was looking where the thinkpad X1 and the new vaio Z, both cost a pretty penny, but have great build quality and great processing power. Being the X1 better since it packs a quad core (or actually when that option appears in the lenovo site)

PS: with thunderbolt I will have a X4 pcie connection thus getting a desktop mid range card like the 6870 or a gtx 560ti would be great for gaming on the external monitor that I have, thus my only concern is cpu, ram, and if my, not, dear F120 SSD is going to make me regret again to have bought it
