It seems like the team is already making new environments (see Eorl's WIP thread). Of course, the RS II ones are unbeatable (sorry, but I gotta stay loyal here), but I think it's very courageous of the FATW team to create something of their own.

Hmm... We could still argue - Eorl's environments are shaping up to look at least as good as RS II's, and they're obviously far better suited for ME.

FATW > RS II for me. It's on my top three, and nothing will move it.

I mistook Eorl's environments for RSII's in the beginning, which says quite a lot. I think they're at least equal

    A word or two:

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, like which environments are better/look better. I have no problems with that, as long as everything said remains civil. Doing this kind of stuff is very time-consuming (like the coding/game balancing/innovation part of a mod). As to which environments you prefer, that's also a matter of taste.

I like to stress that tone's work inspired me to create our own environments (I credit tone for that), and they are quite different. This goes for the way the models are created, like how polygons are arranged to get a certain look. The RS2 trees have for the most part more detailed trunks, i.e more polygons, and slightly more detailed textures. The canopy set-up of our trees is quite different, as is the texture style, and the environments of Dominion of Men are specifically optimized to provide a cool visual experience without impacting performance at all. It goes without saying that they are tailored to suit Middle-earth, and you will get ALL major features Tolkien described with regards to vegetation.

To say the least, I embarked to create environments that as a whole provide a visual experience at least as good as those of RS2, but experimented with other ways to model trees etc. or uv-map textures so as to keep them as light as possible. I like the competition, but always in a friendly spirit.

No matter which environment set you prefer or like better, I can assure you that the Dominion of Men environments look very good and unique.

Edit says: BTW, we got permission to use RS2 skydomes, which are very beautiful (save for some tiling errors along the edges which I've ironed out to get the textures to tile neatly) - edited slightly in color, contrast and brightness to suit my vision of Middle-earth's skies.

I read this so called Bible, and found it to be a third rate story in which this so called 'jesus' is nothing more than a shameless lampooning of Brian, which has inspired joy and laughter in millions.

Can't wait to see all of that in-game! As you can understand, judging those environments from pictures is hard

The pics looked Tolkien-esque enough, can't wait to see what it looks like in game. So they're not as consuming as the RS II ones, eh? My PC is a truckload of sloth excrement.
