Default EU3: Is France a supply limit death trap?

I was playing as Bohemia, and my good friends Burgundy decided to go to war against France. They called me along with them, and being the Holy Roman Emperor I was obliged to go with. I marched over a stack of 10K from Italy (Still don't quite understand how I got them, I guess an event for Milan) but they quite weakened without even fighting.

I've found it quite difficult to campaign against France in France. Any good tips for going about campaigning in France? What provinces to take, where not to go, size of armies etc?

France can field an army of up to 16,000 (that I have seen) in just a single group marching around, so you need to equal that. I'd advise just trying to fight one of their main armies while Burgundy slowly takes their provinces, although it will not be a quick war.

A lot of your problem is probably due to marching over lands between France, i.e. Burgundy/Rheinland area. You may want to look at getting Military Access from those nations if you haven't, as that will improve your supply modifier (I think) there even if you can walk there without it.

As for actually fighting the French, remember to fight defencively. Since the French arn't attacking your land you can't use scorched earth, though pick your battles and watch your supply limits closely. Remember that the supply limit displayed in an enemy province doubles when you're sieging it (and goes up to something like x3 when occupied).

Use your allies' provinces to recover before attacking France proper
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...
