    Default ram upgrade.

im currently trying to get my faulty ram replaced, but if i cant, what should i buy? it needs to be ddr3 dual channel but apart from that what do i need?

is there any way i can get ram with timings that specificaly match my cpu? or anything nice like that that will boost speed? what do i need to look out for and what do all the numbers meen? thanks

    faulty ram contact the maker

aka Gskill, or Corsair, Kingston whoever the brand of your ram is. contact them issue an RMA, theyll tell you what to do follow it to the letter send the ram to them and 99% chance they will give you a brand new set of ram without question.

as for ram depends on your system you didnt mention your CPU or your motherboard. what your current ram is or its total amount you didnt mention your operating system 32bit or 64bit etc.

my current RAM is corsair. i have a phenom II 720 CPU and an asus MOBO. DDR3 dual channel. if you tell me what details you need i will see if i can get them. i shot off an email to corsair with no response, it might have been to the wrong place. hows the best way yo contact them? thanks

well im confused. i went through the corsair RMA thing and they said they will get back to me. anyway i had to do a memtest on the RAM. came back fine.

when i first had my pc it used to lock up and freeze. the only way to fix it was a power button shutdown; not healthy. anyway this went on for a few months getting worse untill i took out one of the sticks of RAM. since then it worked perfectly. since i did the memtest ive kept both in and it seems ok (but there is plenty of time for that to change ). is it possible that its not the ram? i guess its possible i didnt have the ram quite in properly last time or something? i dont know, but this is weird and annoying

    Corsair Tech Support
    http://www.corsair.com/support/technicalsupport/

if you want your rams information

    run CPU-Z
    http://www.cpuid.com/

CPU-Z memory tab will tell you your ram timings etc take a screenshot post it up

otherwise dont worry about ram speeds etc. im guessing you didnt bother to set the ram timings in the motherboard bios yourself so 9times out of 10 your ram is running default 1333mhz 9 9 9 27 1t timings or something similar. eitherway dosent matter

as for the RMA just go to the corsair link above

put in the exact ram stick info you have, you might have to shut down the PC pull the sticks to get the exact make and model number unless you already pulled the ram sticks which you can then easily get the reference info that you will need to cross check on there drop down list and just fill out the information.

but if your overclocking it could just be a stability issue from the wrong voltages.

id make sure you've run memtest first to check the ram sticks

if you were trying to run 4 sticks of ram, you need to bump the CPU-NB voltage from 1.1v to 1.2v to be stable.

Thanks for that. I'm looking to upgrade my RAM as well and I need to know exactly what's in there, as last time I had one stick that wasn't completely identical, I had no end of problems.

thanks. ive filled in the RMA thing now. im jsut slightly concerned that memtest says theres nothing wrong with it. i know its not 100% accurate but still. it meens it could be anything, something signifigantly more expensive than ram. anyway i am going to do another memtest now. will update when i finish. thanks for the help guys

open the BIOS, look for a CPU-NB voltage setting up it to 1.2v and see if your system is stable

should be something like this notice the cpu/nb set that to 1.2v also you didnt mention if your overclocking or not.

Ok I think I've found it. ' memory running and voltage'. Aparently the voltage is at 1.5 already (standard). Any point increasing it? Thanks.

thats RAM voltage CPU/ NB is whats important CPU / NB should be 1.1v stock you want it to go to 1.2v

    Ram voltage is entirely seperate

Or is it north bridge over voltage I need to set? Just under cpu it has vddnb and according to the manual that's the north bridge. Thanks

Edit: neither of those are 1.1 stock. Chipset overvoltage is Howe er.

damn it whats your exact make and motherboard if its asus this isnt rocket science

as right now your basically mentioning all the wrong things

its CPU/NB thats it theres a voltage set it to 1.2v that might mean you need to set it to .1v as some boards are different in how it reads out, give me your actually motherboard make and model number as not to be an ass apparently i have to look up your exact bios otherwise im sure your liable to screw something up as since the ram passed memtest its not the ram. so any instability is coming from the CPU/NB which is the Internal Memory Control or IMC on the cpu, upping voltage to that 1 part helps stabilize ram issues.

    It's an ASUS m4a785td-v Evo.

Sorry about me being so clueless, I Realy appreciate the help though.

Edit: I did a tad of googling on my iPod and it looks like chipset over voltage is what I want. I'm not changing it yet though.

thats helpful i can look up reviews and see the exact bios you see .

your going to want to go to VDDNB and give it +.1 volts not +1 but +0.1 volts then run whatever app is crashing.

why Asus has renamed CPU/NB voltage in this board but every other 700 series board uses CPU/NB is beyond me. eitherway

if that still crashes the system or causes errors then run a temp program like Hardware monitor also on the cpuid site, and check your temps

but you might need to let memtest run all night while your sleeping if the above dosent help,
    '
as it could be anything if the PC only crashes under load it could be a dying powersupply etc theres alot of other things that causes crashes,

if your a bit more clear on whats happening aka the crash itself i can probably help narrow it down if the CPU / NB aka VDDNB volt bump dosent work.

Upping vddnb overvoltage takes it from 0.9 upwards. I'm not sure if it's right. Chipset overvoltage is apparently to do with nb overvoltage and that starts at 1.1 and goes to 1.25 nicely. Are you sure it's not that? Also looking at your screenshot you also seem to have a seperate (but slightly different named) option for cpu vdd voltage. Thanks
