One change is this - http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=451721....I'm currently checking permission to use it, but have made some customisations in the meantime....I've just mainly shown sunrise and sunset pics here for the effect, but the overall changes that are made are stunning in terms of lighting and realism. The main change is to the descr_daytypes.txt file, which I've uploaded with the changes.

Gorgeous, but skies where I live aren't as pink/purple as some of skies even with a crap load of pollution.

the desert shots look amazing, a bit more orange and those will be the best sunrise/sets ive seen

those are perfect Tone, cant get much better...night battles are definatley gonna get more use from me if i get to see those!

WOW are these on regular setting Tone?
Like not too dark or light on options.

Regular settings, though these aren't night battles...just early or late daytime ones. I'll upload some night shots too as I've tweaked the stars.

A lot of the effect is the color of the sunlight on the ground, not just the cloud coloration

OK I finally understand a bit more about some of these lighting files. One setting I had adjusted without really understanding it was in the descr_lighting and fog control file - this controls the change over thresholds between haze (which you can control the colour of in the descr_daytypes file) and fog which is normally white.

So by putting these back to vanilla levels we can get these effects:
