    Default We deceived the EU3!

Iranian negotiator boasts of fooling Europeans

    March 6, 2006

THE man who for two years led Iran's nuclear negotiations has laid out in unprecedented detail how the regime took advantage of talks with Britain, France and Germany to forge ahead with its secret atomic program.

In a speech to a closed meeting of leading Islamic clerics and academics, Hassan Rowhani, who headed talks with the so-called EU3 until last year, revealed how Tehran played for time and tried to dupe the West after its secret nuclear program was uncovered by the Iranian opposition in 2002.

the EU3 were the only western nations to give iran the benefit of the doubt, this is likely to back-fire on them and result in harsher sanctions and more support for americas suggestions of aggresive actions.

Hahah... Europe seems pretty easy to deceive. I used to think Hitler was sly for the way he handled Europe, but the Iranians make it seem easy and commonplace.

Either they wise up and learn to build higher walls like the Ancient Greeks or they can simply bend over backwards and help the wrong kinds of people proselytize the wrong kind of religion.

Europe continue to rely on the appeasement/diplomatic option against enemies that are set on doing bad things, the strategy didnt work with hitler, it wont work now, really wish europe would just grow some balls and maybe a spine that isnt made a of jelly.

these fools never pay attention to history

Come on people, the talks are all politics. Everyone including the frnch, german and brit politicians expected and expects the talks to fail. The point is noone has the broof iran is building nukes or the political will to attack the facilities. The talks are all show so the UN can impose sanctions on Iran because all diplomatic means have failed.

If the speech was at a closed meeting I wonder how they learned about this.
There is nothing in the article pointing to the source for this story.
So I don't trust this report.

Somebody probably leaked the story didn't they. Just because they don't say who the source is does not make it untrustworthy, they probably did not want to be named, it is Iran after all!

Then they would have said it was leaked without explicitly naming the source.

Don't you think it's a bit too much of a coincident for something like this to come out at this moment?

What kind of paper is "smh.com.au" anyways?

It is only upon those to be decieved who want to be deceived. Really, do you think the EU are just too stupid to know what Iran is doing. Do you really think they don't keep close contact with their allies in NATO and the US.

This diplomatic action was set to be...it's better to try and talk than to strike militaily in the first place. If they had not talked, Iran would have continued as he wished. By talking, Iran could still do so but there was at least the hope that something would change, which would not have been there had there been no talks.

Talks are just a chance. If it is not being used, no reason to think the people leading the dialogue would be stupid. There was no military option during the last years. The US would not go and take a second war upon them with Iraq at hand - however justified that was, which is not the question here.

The deciever could always come and claim his victim was stupid. But we must still remember who remains the criminal in those cases. I think talk is cheap and action was not at hand at the time. Right now, it seems very much different.
From the pride and arrogance of the Romans nothing is sacred. But the vindictive gods are now at hand. On this spot we must either conquer, or die with glory (Boudiccas Speech, Tacitus, Annals, XIV, 35)

    I figured that.

    But what is it?
    Is it a serious newspaper?
Does it have a strong political bias?
Sorry I don't know every single newspaper in the world.

I do not think war is likely and the present clamour will make any non-civilian use of the atom by the Iranian hard to conceal. I think the Iranians are probably hinting at nuclear naughtiness simply to disorder their international critics and quieten their legions of internal opponents. Iran most probably could make the Shia as troublesome as the Sunni are in Iraq, if they chose. They hardly control the Iraqi government or its allied politicial factions. But they could divide it and them against each other. I think the US and others will emphasise that life could be very unpleasant even without war. Acccidents happen and all that. I think the Iranians will be prudent enough to calm down.
