Re: Different Engine?
The RTW BI game engine includes the 'shieldwall' special ability for the units that have that. Also light units and some cavalry are able to swim across rivers.
The AI in RTW BI is supposed to be better than the AI in RTW.

Re: Different Engine?
Also included with BI AI is they like to use sea invasions ALOT more, which makes things more interesting. If you can get Alexander, though you dont need to it adds some more things that the AI can do to make the campaign some what more funner.

The faction needs to be set up to 'prefer naval invasions' for that to have an effect. Some factions have this and others don't.
I've read that with the Alex exe the AI will retrain units to bring them back up to full strength - I presume if they are in a settlement.
